AnnMarie1957 42 Posted July 23, 2013 My husband was sleeved on 6/12/2013. I was sleeved last week (7/18/2013). My husband is down more than 50 lbs. I hope to do as well as he has. He is my exercise hero. Really helping me get my 60 minutes of walking in every DAT.
dward59 8 Posted July 23, 2013 My husband and I are both being sleeved August 3rd. We worked it out that way because for us it'll be less time off work, babysitter, financially, etc. also just being in the same phases (diet wise) will be better for daily life. We've both been needing to do this for years. Same with my wife and I, we were both sleeved May 1st. The doctor strongly urged this so we would be in sync on the diet changes and both know exactly where we were. It has worked out great. My wife is down 62, I'm down 87 and we are almost at the three month mark (weights are from Pre-Op diet starting weights, not just since sleeve.) I think you made a great choice in your plans. Gamergirl. I had the same fears for post op. We had a 19 yo son who brought us home from the hospital and was around just in case we needed something, but we were pretty self sufficient. We did tend to sleep in shifts because movement by the other in bed caused a ripple effect of pain the first couple of days, but by day 3 we were fine. I think both of us were off pain pills and moving fairly well by day 5. 2 gamergirl and amduc reacted to this

Moppy 4 Posted July 23, 2013 My husband had his surgery in March 2011. I had mine in April 2013. He has lost 140 lbs. So far I've lost 43.5. I've got 26 more to go. It is good to have a support person who has been through it. We totally understand what is going on with each other. We are empty nesters, so we don't have to worry about feeding others in our house. Even our dog has lost weight! Husband and I were talking just today about how we could not have done it any other way and how it has been worth it (money-wise, weight-wise, emotion-wise)! Insurance did not cover the costs of either of our surgeries. 2 gamergirl and amduc reacted to this
gamergirl 4,610 Posted August 3, 2013 For those couples who haven't yet had surgery, a small tip from me. Do whatever you can to get on the same meds schedule while in the hospital. We are getting meds for nausea, pain and inflammation, plus we're getting iV bags switched. The meds seem to one every four hours--unfortunately I go first and then 2 hours later its time for my husbands meds. What this means is that we are getting no more than 2 hours of uninterrupted sleep at night. Ugh. I was out of surgery an hour before him, but if he feels nauseous before you do, ask for your first dose when he does. You can thank me later 3 kim.cooper, MCM13 and amduc reacted to this

NancyDec20 212 Posted August 5, 2013 I see my hubby already posted here lol.. but at that time we were 100 each.. he is now at his goal wt.. im 29lbs from mine.. we were done a week apart.. we are each others best support team.. we work out together and do everything together... it has been the greatest thing ever. ive lost 107lbs... and he has lost like 116. men lose faster than women. But all in all its been a great journey and will continue to be a journey for the both of us. I think having someone that is or has been thru the same thing as you helps having them there with you all the way.. they understand how you feel and what you are going thru.. a good support team is a must.. he keeps me on track for sure... I love him to death for being there for me..and I for him... best of luck in your journey.. we were close before and even closer now.... 3 amduc, M2G and Randydec27 reacted to this

Also typical of male/female differences, he's lost 16 lbs and I've lost 5. He lost 6 lbs in the days immediately before and after surgery. I of course, came back with 4 extra lbs of water/swollen weight. Again, typical, right? Men!

lookin4change 6 Posted August 5, 2013 My surgery date is August 5th and my husband has his first consult today. We want to do it as close together as possible. It will be great for support. Your thoughts? BTW' date=' I had my consult and approval all in less than 2 weeks![/quote'] That is amazing! Some people have been jumping through hoops for a year or more. I had surgery July 11. My husband needs surgery worse than I did. He is discussing it with his dr but he doesn't like the idea of quitting drinking. He has diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea. I wish he would get more serious about it. He talks about it but doesn't seem like his heart is really in it. I could use the support too, as opposed to him eating everything under the sun and pushing food at me. Good luck to you, hope your husband follows close behind you.
