Having second thoughts! Help!

Recommended Posts

I have set my surgery date and am starting to have second thoughts. I have chosen not to share my decision with anyone but my husband and children. They are very supportive but very worried. I have so many thoughts and feelings right now i don't know what to do with them. When i set my surgery date i think the receptionist (who had the sleeve two months ago) was more excited than i was! Are all of these feelings normal? I am excited--don't get me wrong--but this is a big decision right?

Feeling ashamed (i did this to myself!), anxious, nervous, scared, and getting a bit excited. Putting my faith in so many unknowns! This journey will not only affect me but people around me too.

Thanks for your input on this!

I felt that exact same way. Getting the sleeve was by far, the best gift I have ever given myself. Best of luck to you!

If you didn't have second thoughts I think that would be a big worry. This is a huge decision, that will impact you and your family for the rest of your life. This is NOT a decision to take lightly. If you have done your research, and your family supports you (I don't believe in secrets, other than those I must keep for my military Security Clearance, so I told anyone and everyone), then second thoughts are just a rational mind weighing the pro and cons. My two cents worth...

It is completely normal to feel anxious about your decision. Best thing I can say is trust your gut instinct. YOu know what your reasons are for choosing surgery and if you feel you need more information then you should get it. Just because you are confident in your decision doesn't mean the anxiety and nerves will go away. Hopefully you will find some peace of mind.

I can say for me, it was the scariest, best decision I ever made. And I could not be happier.

Best of luck to you!

Perfectly normal to question yourself and your decision. I think i made a post almost exactly like this right before my surgery. I can say that personally I have been very pleased with my decision and would do it again in a heart beat! You just have to decide within yourself what is right for you! Take care!

Yup, it's normal. I literally almost vomited when they gave me my surgery date! I am still early after surgery but I have no regrets. I was nervous up until they put me out for surgery. For me, it was the right decision and after I woke up, I was relieved! Hang in there...

I just tried really really hard not to think about it. I knew I was making a good decision for myself and my health, so I basically had to push it out of my mind so that I wouldn't argue with myself! :)

It's so normal to have second thoughts. I look back on my YouTube videos from right before my surgery and I'm so glad I didn't let those thoughts stop me. This is the best decision I've ever made for myself. If you've done your research you probably know in your gut if this is the right decision for you or not. I think my biggest second thought was the thought of complications -- but eventually I decided I'd rather have to deal with a complication from sleeve now rather than a heart surgery after a heart attack 10 years from now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
