Hello all, I am new to this site and am learning a lot set to have surgery next month. I wanted to get some clarification on the Proteins drink. I just saw that you posted the more Protein it is better and less calories. Does that apply to the total fat or over all calories. I am still learning and I want to know what to look for when shopping. I did see Isoplus, Lean body and muscle milk. What would be the best protein to but as well as ready to drink ones? Thxs for your answers

Mr doc has a list of some that fit their requirements, and the requirements per scoop are 1) at least 20g whey Protein 2) no more than 5g carbs 3) no more than 3g sugar 4) no more than 4g fat. If the whey Protein is a ready-to-drink liquid, it should have at least 20g protein per 11 oz.

So far I've tried Syntrax nectar in vanilla bean torte, double stuffed cookie, and chocolate truffle, Really good! Today I tried a packet of unjury strawberry sorbet mixed with half Water and half unsweetened almond milk. It was delish!

The only one I've tried and could not deal with at all is the Jay Robb protein.

Hope this helps some. :)

Isopure and Unjury are good sources of protein...they are both whey Protein isolate and have a lot of protein with few carbs and the taste isn't half bad either.

I use the RTD Premier Protein shakes. They are a bit pricey but well worth it to me, convenient and smooth not that yucky powdery consistency. They have 30grams of Protein, 5 carbs and 160 calories.

I use Unjury powders and, on occasion, will add something to them (i.e. PB2 is a great tasting Peanut Butter powder that gives you some additional Protein with minimal fat intake!). To be honest, I love the base flavors of Unjury, but have learned to dazzle up my Protein Shakes for extra nutrition, taste, etc. My doc is fine with what I do, but each one is different!

I ordered the sample package from unjury. Overall, for the price I was disappointed with the vanilla and chocolate. the chocolate was OK, the vanilla had a blah taste to me. Not a very strong vanilla taste at all. I added a few drops of Dasani pineapple/coconut flavor and it was good. Have not tried the chicken broth or unflavored yet.

Premier Protein from Sam's, costco or BJ's Club is the best in my opinion, actually tastes like chocolate milk to me.

More Protein to less cals is better - just make sure you're not taking in more than 30 in one sitting. Your body can't process more than that at one time.

The best I've found are:

EAS Carb Control (Sometimes I'll add a scoop of Click to it)

Gold Standard whey

unjury

Isopure Zero Carb

My NUTs guidelines were similar to that second post as well. Seems like that's what everyone feels is "good".

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
