Recommended Posts

I'm new to the forum and I hope I posted in the right section. I started my liquid diet today 6/27/13.I am drinking my Protein Shake and taking Multivitamins. I think I'm doing what I'm supposed to do but I'm having a really bad headache. My surgery is on July 11,2013. What am I doing wrong? Please help

I'm the same way, I started mine today. In my pre-op class they told us to expect it, because your body is adjusting. In a few days it'll all be easier and surgery will be here before you know it. Keep your head up. :)

I had the nastiest headaches also. It was the no yummy carbs, no soda, no coffee that did me in.... It does get better.

Aw, I'm sorry it's so hard. I feel your pain, literally!!

I'm a head-achey person in general, and I already had one when I started the pre-op diet. Two days in, I was in the emergency room at my local hospital begging for relief! I had the standard Migraine protocol, and it didn't help much! LOL

Unfortunately, I used my sorry state to justify eating food that wasn't on the diet.

I was feeling better by day three, though. Of course I have a headache right now, but I will not go off this damn diet! I'm so afraid of showing up in Mexico, only to be told my liver is too big and fat and being sent home. :(

I had a headache the first day on the pre-op diet too. I just figured it was due to no cola's, carbs, caffeine, etc. Funny side note...I got the same headache when I went on the Atkins diet--except it lasted 3 days! Stranger yet--I suffer from chronic Migraines, but I haven't had one since the sleeve surgery. Now I'm wondering if it was something I'd been eating that was causing the headaches.

Anyway, once the headache passes, you'll be well on your way to the new you!

My doctor told me that starchy carbs and other foods contribute to migraines. I didn't really pay attention to that info until I started a low carb diet and notice my migraines that come like clock work 14-16 days before my cycle were MIA. Recently I had a set back and ate some bread and sweets which triggered my migraines again. So certain foods do cause bad headaches.

You have to drink at least 8 glasses of Water on the liquid diet from what I've found. When you eat more Protein, you have to drink more water.

Unplesant but normal... You are clearing toxins from your body. Make it 3 or 4 days and it WILL get better. BUT if you add carbs back in you have to start the 3/4 days all over again, so try hard to press on through!

Water, water and then more water is what I heard is best. Hang in there we all go through it (going through it now) its one of the many phases we have to go through to look fabulous.

Good luck and look foward to rockin that sleeve!

I am also new to,the forum and had my first appt with the dietician and surgeon. I have my psych eval this week and then I will be scheduled for my pre-op and surgery. I am getting ready and decided to do a semi-dry run. I bought Atkins shakes and will see what they taste like. I am slowly weaning myself off sugar and soda. I am to do a 2 wks liquid before surgery.....I was surprised that I also get to eat a low carb meal each day. Thought it would be ALL liquid.

Can you tell me which shakes you found tasted the best?

Thanks.

I'm sure it's caffeine, sugar and carb withdrawal causing the headaches. Tylenol should work to relieve the pain if that's all it is causing it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
