Does anyone never weigh?

Historically, weighing myself leads to problems--all in my head of course. I have tried daily weights to keep my eating in check, weekly weights to keep my brain in check, never weights and going by my clothes size. So does any one not weigh themselves after surgery? I can see getting much too obsessed and it seems to me I would not know about a stall if I did not weigh myself.

I am a big advocate of weighing once a week as near to the same time of day as possible. Say like every Monday morning before my shower :) . I believe that weekly gives a good understanding of where your weight is trending, either up or down. If it is going in the direction you want, presumably down, then it is affirmation that what you're doing is working. If it is not going down then it provides an opportunity to reevaluate what you're doing and change if needed. And keep in mind if the scale does not go down and you're doing the right things, that's fine, even expected. But by having a quantitative measurement weekly you provide yourself with the information you need to make informed decisions. Personally I feel weighing daily is too likely to cause one to ride emotional ups and downs with the slightest change from day to day. I would never advocate for someone never weighing, maybe at the greatest interval once a month.

I only weigh myself at the Dr's office every 6 to 8 weeks....It has always been a big surprise and I don't obsess about the weight coming off...I concentrate more on the eating part and will leave the weigh ins for the team that did the surgery in the first place...

I never weighed myself when I was fluffy so not about to make it a daily thing, weekly or even monthly.....I have always believed that scales are for fish....

Go by how you feel and how you are fitting into your clothes......You will be happier!

I'm so new at this I hardly feel qualified to respond, but here goes.

I read a post (I think on OH, might have been here) by a successful vet who said something like, and I never had a stall or a plateau, not once, ever. Here's how I did it: I didn't weigh myself except at the doctor's office.

And I decided that's what I will do, at least for the first three to six months, assuming I manage to religiously follow my surgeon's plans for me in terms of eating and exercise. As long as I do that, I have faith that the weight will come off and I don't want to stress about how much or when or whether I might be in the "week 3 stall" or whatever.

So, I didn't weigh myself during the two week pre-op diet. Showed up at the hospital and learned I had lost 16 lbs. Yay! I had surgery on June 19 and have not weighed myself since. I have my first post-op follow-up on Monday and presumably I'll get weighed then.

I think further down the road, when my eating is more according to my own choices and weight loss gets harder, I will probably weigh once a week.

I actually love weighing myself now. I weigh myself everyday and even through the stalls I've seen a pattern of how long I stall before I lose. I use to hate weighing myself, but now I love it!!

I literally only weigh at the doctor's office every 3 months. Had my DH take the scale out if the house 2 weeks after surgery bc I couldn't stay off of it!

It's been the absolute right choice for me. I can still tell when I stall (I have to increase my calories to break them, btw!) and I know when I'm losing.

Lots of people weigh once a week on a certain day. Just find what works for you and doesn't drive you mad!!

Many thanks, this helps a lot. I know that weighing myself, even if I lose weight drives me crazy for I keep wanting more and faster. I need to focus on habits that will last a lifetime without the 'pick me up' from a weight drop or the 'down in the dumps' from a stall. My size should be enough to alert me to problems. As I am sure is true for most of you, i can tell how each one of my pants fits and when they are getting tighter or looser.

I am 11 months out down 105 lbs. and have been weighing myself twice a day. I don't find this to be helpfyl as my weight will fluctuate during the day. I joined weight watchers for help and decided today to only weigh myself weekly at the meeting. By doing this I can focus on my behavior and not drive myself nuts about what the scale says. I also know that if I stick to the plan I will loose weight.

This is a little off topic but I'm curious: Why do you see ur doc every 3 mths? I thought that was a benefit of sleeve vs lapband, the need for less drs visits. Personally, I'm so sick of driving 6 hrs round trip, paying a $160 co pay, waiting in the drs office for up to 2 hrs 9+ times a yr (3 1/2 yrs post lapband).

I'm with you, I weigh myself everyday lol and so far I'm losing about 2lbs a day!

I have to see the Dr. Every 3 months, too, along with blood work every three months for the first year. They are just watching your health.

You need to monitor your progress or lack of progress. I know its so hard (I get scared of the scale) but of you are not weighing you do not have an objective black and white measure of you you are doing. Going by how your clothes fit or whatever is all well and good except that you are not going to notice a 2 pound gain in your jeans, but you will see it on the scale. By the time you notice a gain in your pants, its probably more like 6-8 pounds.

Surgery was on a Weds so I weigh each Weds morning at home.

If I want to go weigh in at my Drs I can as his office is approx 2 miles away and I can go use their scale anytime I want without an appt. Lucky in that respect. Heck I should walk there next time :)
