Preference: To mix with water or milk?

Recommended Posts

Since each of the little sample packets of Sytrax nectar I got were about $2 per pkt, I hate to waste any of it. It says to mix with either Water or milk. I can see mixing the fruit flavored ones with water, but don't the choc/vanilla/cappucino flavors need a little thicker of a mix to make them taste good?

To be honest, I haven't even tried them yet. Still waiting to get a little smoothie machine from Walmart so they don't come out clumpy.

Just curious. What's your preference?

I got mine for like 1.29 per packet at bobs bariatrics. I use almond milk, unsweetened vanilla. 30 cal per cup and twice the Calcium of milk.

I agree -- when I drink the fruit Nectars I use Water, but vanilla & chocolate seem to call for something more substantial -- therefore I often use at least some milk with those. If I don't want to mix my chocolate or vanilla with milk because I'm saving my calories, then I will put in an ice cube or two, then run it through the high speed blender. The crushed ice helps thicken it a bit.

I havent tried any of the fruit flavors but have used the chocolate and vanilla in both Water and milk. When I use water, I tend to mix it up in my blender with some ice cubes and that makes it icy so it makes me think of a shake. Anyway, I think both ways are good. I usually make the decision depending on how my calories and Protein are looking.

All you need is a shaker bottle with a ball for the fruity ones. i've never had an issue with clumping with those. can't speak for the chocolate or vanilla flavors.

I like to mix the fruity flavors in Water and the dessert flavors in milk. If you blend the dessert flavors with ice and milk in the blender, it tastes pretty darn close to a milkshake. Yum!

I thought about just buying one of those cups with the spiral ball in it. Since they run about $8 and the little 1 serving blender costs about $14, I think I may get a better value with the blender. And I can blend ice with it, something you can't do very well in a cup. Thankx for the idea tho!

Remember milk isn't in the clear liquid stage. I always used Water simply because it was less carbs and calories. Other than that I use pre made ready to go type because I'm so messy and lazy

Good luck making a shake in the car!

(sorry, I have a magic bullet and it's great. i actually have several shakers, two at home, one at work, and one I carry with me when I expect to be out for awhile.)

The motor-driven ones are starting to become more popular. Personally, if it had the power to destroy a banana like a Magic Bullet does I'd get one. Otherwise, i'm okay with my shaker.

Besides making a delicious drink, i get a bicep/tricep workout as well! :D

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
