Surgery in 6 days! Yay! Anyway... I'm doing all my shopping for post op and I had a question. It's hard for me to take in a lot of Water now.. I can only imagine post op. But I can take in things like crystal light and diet iced tea just fine. I'm wondering if my weight loss will be effected by taking in diet drinks, rather then plain water? I know, probably a stupid question, but I'm a perfectionist and I want to do everything possible to optimize my weight loss.

Try to stick to the Crystal Light, fruit infused Water or flavor drops. For many of us plain Water is an issue post op, anyway, but staying hydrated (especially in that first month or two) is critical.

I'd stay away from things that have a diuretic effect like tea, at least immediately post op.

Just keep a cup near you at all times and sip, sip, sip and you should be okay.

Thank you! I feel so silly asking these questions. I just want everything to be perfect!

clk is so right! My surgeon allowed any no calorie, no caffeine, no carbonation beverage that I wanted to help me keep hydrated. Sodium free bullion was a good addition for me because the heat was very soothing on my stomach. I am 11 months out and plain Water is still hard for me to get down. I also use a lot of Sobee 0 lifewaters. You are doing great by planning and finding these things out ahead of time! Good luck and keep us posted! :D

Iced tea has to be Decaf, otherwise you should be ok.

I'm pre-op, but right now I'm drinking a Vitamin Water Zero (squeezed lemonade flavor), which is naturally sweetened. The 20 oz. bottle has 0 calories, 100% Vitamin C, 100% Vitamins b5, b6, and B12, electrolytes, and other minerals and stuff.

I figure after surgery the additional Vitamins, especially b12, will be good for me. I suppose you could add a scoop of Syntrax nectar Roadside Lemonade Protein powder to it and really bump it up nutritionally.

I bought a case of them a couple of days ago at Sam's. Fifteen in the case, 3 different flavors for $12.88.

Next thing I want to try out is the Isopure clear. 40g Protein in a 20 oz bottle. My post-op diet is Clear liquids the first week....I was told not to worry about protein for that first week, but I'm going to try to have 2 of the Isopure's every day for that week. I'm still being compliant with my doctor's orders, plus I'm getting protein. I want to try to be proactive in the protein department.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
