Well, my doctor told me that I needed to try to get my calories up to at least 800 a day. I'm 6 weeks post op and averaging about 600. He said he would like me to get to 1000. He said it's healthier and as I'm exercising more, it will keep me out of starvation mode and help me actually lose weight faster. The problem? Where to put more food? I don't seem to be able to get my calories higher, when I'm not eating, I'm drinking Water and just can't seem to fit anything else. Any ideas or suggestions?

My NUT told me the exact same thing at 6 weeks, and she was right...

I would add a good quality Protein shake. It will boost your calories and your Protein, its easier (for me at least) to ingest liquids. I have always used Pure Protein chocolate brand, with my smart balance milk and some PB2 powder. Very tasty and if I have one, I do it first thing in the morning. Gets me off to a great start. It will get easier to take in more calories.

Great start for you!!! Congratulations!

Pure Protein Bars come in smaller sizes, I eat the 1.76 oz bar for Breakfast and it's only 180 calories.. 20 grams of Protein

You can do this. If you are using fat free milk, bump it up to 1 or 2%. If you are using "light" anything, use the real deal instead. Add a tablespoon of Peanut Butter to your smoothies. Get creative!

Isn't it funny how we use to have so much trouble eating less, and now the problem is we need to eat more. ;)

I know right! I never thought a doctor would tell me to eat more..lol

thanks everyone for the advice, I'm going to try to add another shake or a Protein Bar, and adding pb to shake sounds great, and would love to have 2% milk again

Great suggestions in this thread. The only thing I'd add is that you might consider eating (or Protein shake) more often by not waiting as long for each meal. Lastly, you might need to add a meal to your day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
