MissKatt 26 Posted June 27, 2013 Do they always give blood thinners before surgery? Just a little curious because I have borderline low blood platelets which cause me to bruise and bleed easily as it is. Anyone else have that experience?
erics300 137 Posted June 27, 2013 I was given a blood thinner before surgery but I don't have low blood platelets.
twsport 45 Posted June 27, 2013 My doc told me he would be giving me Heparin before surgery. I told him I was on a blood thinning medication already and he wants me to stop it 5 days before surgery. I think that is what causes me to bruise so easily.

Anyone else have that experience? Yes. No big deal. It was a Heparin shot in the holding area. Smallest needle ever.

dustin551 84 Posted June 27, 2013 I have low platelets as well. I told the doctor about it and he told me that depending on what my labs look like right before surgery, they might actually infuse some platelets in before surgery. Not sure what that means as far as blood thinners afterwards though.
