I wanted to ask everyone that has been sleeved how they handle meats. I'm 7 weeks out today and have tried chicken, ground round, sirloin and turkey.

Turkey-deli--wonderful, no problems

Chicken-oh heck no, ouch-tried 3 times

Sirloin-no problems--could only eat an oz

ground round-ouch!-first time I ate it was fine-second time, hurts bad

Just wanted to see how others are doing with this.

I've made 2 meals out of 1 chicken thigh and did ok. It's not as dry as breast...but not as healthy.

I eat tuna with no problems. I tried a few bites of a Johnsonville brat....nope, not gonna do that again. Made me sick ...but didn't yak. too much grease...I shoulda known better.

I know everyone's plan is different, but I met with my NUT yesterday to go to soft solids. I was told that beef would be the last thing that your stomach will be able to tolerate because it is harder to digest and sometimes more fibrous. She said it wouldn't be until about 6 months that beef would be ok.

I did well with all meats, chicken, and fishes. They do say to wait to eat red meat because it is a lot richer and more fibrous. Just be patient and stick with what works. By 6 months you should be closer to being able to eat what you want. Good luck:)

I'm 6.5 months out, and there are very few things I cannot handle. High fat meats and bacon being examples of what makes me sick. As time passes, you'll feel better with things, but don't push as you are still pretty early out.

I am a vegetarian and haven't had any problem with any vegetarian forms of protein--you can do tofu, tempeh, Morningstar soy products, Greek yogurt, low-fat cheese, etc.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
