protein bars = depression?

Recommended Posts

I'm in a serious funk that I just cant seem to get out of. I'd have to say it started about 5 days ago, and the only thing I can think that I've been doing differently is having a Protein Bar every day/other day since then. I guess I'm gonna cut them out completely and see if it goes away.

I do get this way almost every summer but I always thought it was all the sugar I used to consume, and other crap mixed with being so fat I didn't want to be seen in public, PLUS not being active at all. this year all those things are different.

I'm really sad because I can't find my workout mojo. the only thing I want to do (crave like mad) is cardio, and I want to strength train.. REally, I do, I just pick up my weights and set them back down because I'm in such a fog, I just don't make myself follow through. (I was careful not to say "can't" cu i know i can, but can't.. am i making sense?)

ANYWAY- before I go the dr/med route, I'm hoping someone can chime in with other ideas, or let me know if you've noticed this same trend? I just. can't. snap. out of it.. and i eat "fairly" healthy, do have a stevia sweetened tea daily, and I get about 7.5-8 hours of sleep a night.

I need to find happy amy again. Luckily, i haven't turned to food like I used to, but the thought is there.. But I have always been a binger, and I can't do that, so thankfully, eating junk isn't very tempting since I can't eat my weight in it.

I'm sorry I can't help you but just know that I'll be wishing good thoughts for you & sending you ((((HUGS)))). Maybe someone here can help or maybe going thru your psych from your Weight Loss program can shed some light on your mood? Hope you find your way out of the dark tunnel soon.

I'm guessing it depends what your Protein Bars are made of. Most are not good for you and full of sugar and carbs. Perhaps that's what your body. Is reacting to.

A lot of people only use bars if they can't get their Protein from the natural source. Should never be consumed on a daily basis

My surgeon warned us that this sort of thing could happen and not to be reluctant to ask for help. Even my insurance rep said the same thing when she called me. No one has to know.

I've had episodes of this where I can't even drag myself to do the cardio.

We may not have all the answers, but you're not alone.

How long ago were you sleeved? I was sleeved on April 2nd and about 2 weeks ago I was in this terrible funk, I didn't know what was going on because before that I was on this big high just from losing weight and feeling better, so I didn't know what was wrong with me..It lasted about a week and a half and then all of a sudden I felt like myself again..I forced myself to go to my kettlebell class again one night and after that is when I felt better..Not sure if it's a coincidence or not but I was just happy it went away...Good luck and feel better, I hope it passes quickly for you..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
