over a year out and belly button smells

Recommended Posts

I'm a over a year out and have lost over 100 lbs. I have a lot of hanging skin which I can't do anything about at this time.. Just exercise ... My problem is my belly button smells... I wash it a couple of times a day.... anyone else have this problem and what do you do about it. Even after I wash I think it still smells sometimes....

mine smells too. i noticed that as i lose weight my tummy is looking frumped over. like the top is now falling down and it covers up my belly button. what i typically do is after a bath/shower i wipe it dry with a towel and sometime a little bit of rubbing alcohol on a q-tip. or if i am going to be home i sometimes just stick a cotton ball in there (i have a deep button). it soaks up the moisture. i just leave it in for alittle bit. usually helps. while it was healing i would put a cotton ball in there for a while. just made it feel better. that's where my only incision is.

not sure if these will help but good luck!

Yes, it could be a yeast or bacterial fungus. Another great fungus/yeast killer many people are not familiar with is coconut oil. It is really good for regulating PH and killing skin fungus/yeast. It smells great too. I have a jar of extra virgin coconut oil I keep next to my bedside, and use it instead of lotion. Hope you find something that works for you!

I have the exact same issue and did have it checked by a doctor. Mine is indeed a yeast infection that recurs frequently. My doctor wrote me a prescription and, believe it or not, told me to make sure I contact her every time it starts so it can be documented in my medical record. She said it is a direct result of my hanging skin, no air getting in there and dead skin, etc., getting trapped. It may prove valuable information should I ever decide I need a Tummy Tuck and possibly getting it covered due to medical reasons.

Get some baby powder and use it. It smells good and I bet it might help.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
