hair question

Recommended Posts

I have read many things on people losing their hair-but i had a question to the ladies.

I am getting a single process color today and i wanted to get highlights tomorrow I have had no Hair loss issues

yet and am 3 weeks post surgery.

Any advice if you think if i have these 2 things done that it could cause hair loss?

I am just over 6 months out and have my hair processed (colored/highlights) every 6-8 weeks. Hair loss for me started at 3-3.5 months and stopped about 5 months. Getting hair colored/processed had no effects on the falling out process...

And I just lost fullness/thickness not chunks of hair...only I could tell when brushing/washing/styling etc...it's now got the short 'whispys' where hair re growth is happening.

Keep open communication with your stylist as he/she should have experience in hair loss and can give you tips and recommendations for styling to minimize the look of hair loss, products and Vitamins to help etc.

Good luck and don't worry too much!

I've not colored my hair ever, so not sure about that part. But, I started losing hair around 4 months out and it lasted until 9 months out.

I have thin hair due to thyroid issues, I am so afraid I will loose more. I have started taking Biotin now before my surgery(7/22/13) to build up my hair. I'm hoping this is a good move for my advanced planning :P

I had my hair colored a few months out and it didnt seem to be a problem. I started losing hair about 5 months out and it slowed down around 7 months but I am left with a large patch on the back top part of my head (which is normally pretty thin anyway) that is barely covered with hair. I have started having to wear my hair up in order to cover the spot. Like I said, my hair has always been extremely thin and baby fine. Going to have to think about getting a new style to work around that area. I hope your new "DO" looks great to match the new "YOU"~

I am 1 year post op and I'm still losing hair. I know I don't get enough Protein as I struggle to get enough liquids and food in each day. I take Biotin daily to help slow down the Hair loss but am wondering if its ever going to stop.

I just completed my 4th month post-op and really noticed in the last week that it's shedding bad. But, I go into shedding this time of year anyway so I'm hoping it won't be bad!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
