Has anyone been sleeved by Dr Ortiz in Tijuana? I'm looking to make a decision for my surgery and would appreciate any feedback, good or bad. Thanks!

Yes! I was sleeved by him 2/13. Best choice I have ever made. I am down 40 pounds and 30 to go. Had a wonderful experience!

Thx tami88! Did you have any issues post surgery? I have an 8 hr flight w/out travel time so I am looking for as much piece of mind in terms of the facility, surgeon and how long one spends in each place...because going back 'n forth will be impossible.

My surgery is with Dr. Ortiz, Monday 7/1.

So far my experience with his staff has been awesome. I haven't heard anything negative him or OCC. He has a bunch of videos on you tube, maybe that will help

Best of luck to you!

I was sleeved by Dr Ortiz on 9/10/12. I had a great experience. I had minimal recovery time - I was first in surgery on Monday morning and I was back to work very soon after surgery. I flew out Thursday morning with no trouble at all. I actually went to work on Friday because I had a meeting I could not miss. I was fine - not great but fine. I don't think you will have trouble on your flight home - you might be stiff, I was, but not in excruciating pain. You have made a great decision to have surgery with Ortiz. Best of luck with everything and keep us posted!

Pre-op has had it's moments. The first three days I was really sick with a sinus infection... so I stayed in bed. But, lately it's not too bad. Just trying to keep my self busy so I don't think to much about it. :)

How are y'all doing? Ready for Monday? Are you all flying in Sunday evening?

I was just sleeved by Dr. Ortiz 2 weeks ago and my whole experience was very smooth, easy and painless! I also went alone and I was fine! Actually I'm glad I went alone because I enjoyed the peace and quiet. Napped a little, watch some TV, napped a little, walked around the hotel....it was all great!

I had no pain or nauseousness at all! I definitely think his 13 years of experience are evident in his patient's recovery. I can't say enough good about everyone at the OCC! You will be in excellent hands!

My husband just got sleeved last week there. He has not had any problems and was taken good care of. He said the hotel took excellent care of all of the bariatric patients. My husband had a 5 1/2 hour flight back and he did fine with the flight other than the normal complaints, I will recommend calling the airline and requesting a wheel chair and an aisle seat (just in case you need the restroom).

Good luck on your journey and welcome to the losers bench!

I was sleeved by Dr. Ortiz on Friday, June 21. Like the others who have posted, I had a great experience. The staff at OCC took great care of me. They really walk you through everything well and explain everything before you go in. I have had a little pain and no nausea following the surgery. My flight home was only 2.5 hours, and I did make sure to select an aisle seat so I could get up and walk a bit and use the restroom. The worst part for me has been the gas. Even with the Gas-X strips, the gas is annoying and painful.

My only regret - and I'm not even sure if regret is the right word - is that I don't remember Dr. Ortiz coming to my room and talking to my husband and me after the procedure. My husband assured me that I had a conversation with Dr. Ortiz, but I don't remember it at all, and I was REALLY looking forward to meeting him since he is so darn cute! Even my husband agrees that Dr. Ortiz is a fine looking man, and that is saying a lot!!!

Good luck, and feel free to PM me if you want any more info.

I just found out I have to get up at 2:30 AM Sunday morning to make my flight. Ugh! The airport van said a bunch of people have missed their flights recently because of security so we have to leave home really early.

It's good to hear people have had good experiences at OCC.< /p>

Seattle. I picked an earlier flight because it was cheaper but I didn't realize how early I'd have to get up.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
