12 days out and can't regain my stamina or strength

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on June 12th, and have struggled regaining my strength each day. I am 32, starting wt 263, no other health conditions, and was able to walk a block or 1 set of stairs with no shortness of breath prior to surgery. Since being home, I have been struggling with intake of both Fluid and Protein - I'm sure you all can relate. I have been treated with fluids twice - once last week at the md office and then Saturday I could not get anything in because of nausea and was rehydrated at the ER. Yesterday I felt like a new person - it was amazing and no more nausea. I started the hour I woke up measuring out 4 oz per hour, ate some Soup with protein, and got in what I could of some shakes - but the gas and bloating threw me off in the afternoon and evening. Today, I didn't feel as great as yesterday. I started the same way off, measuring my fluids, setting goals, but have not been able to take in very much protein at all. I called my surgeon and tomorrow is my first true follow up since surgery. The nurse told me to just focus on fluids - clear today, and relieving some mild Constipation. Problem is - I am so weak that it is hard to shower, walk more than a few laps around my house, and the stairs just about knock me out. I am taking my Vitamins daily and avoiding laying down. I have drank about 30 oz of Water today. Anyone else struggle with weakness and loss of stamina this far out from surgery? I know we all recover differently - but I just wasn't expecting this for myself. Thanks for any feedback :)

Hi nursehr80!! I'm 3 days post op. starting weight 301, today's weight 290. I noticed that I was extremely fatigued the first two days I came home. All I did was sleep. Idk if it was from the pain meds or what but I couldn't do anything. Just like you, walking around my home, showering and just sitting up right were challenging for me. I couldn't take in much fluids because the gas was so bad, but I have noticed that as the gas subsided I'm able to tolerate more fluids. I was drinking too fast at first and giving myself awful pains. It truly is tricky to learn how to gauge my Fluid intake and what I can tolerate and what I can't tolerate. This journey is truly much different from what I was told. No amount of preparation prepared me for this actual experience.

I felt so bad beginning Saturday and I was sleeved 6/13. Today I picked up my rx for nasal B12 and can tell that's what I needed! Also began Iron. Hope you get your fatigue resolved. Take care.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
