My mom is being sleeved today. She's also getting her gall bladder taken out. She went into the OR at 1:30. It's now 4:45 and she's still n there. In this normal? I don't want to freak before I have to. I'm at home because my younger son is very sick, but my grandfather (who is 86 and partially senile) is at the hospital with her.

Se also had a bad ulcer that they had to cut out.

Does this seem way too long? I'm straying not to panic!

Is that a normal amount of time to be in the Or? My surgeon said 1-1.5 hours tops..

She's been in for 3

Sometimes it just takes longer. Do you know for sure she was wheeled in at 1:30 or was she scheduled? I was supposed to go in at noon and didn't actually get to the OR til almost 3. The OR just got backed up. She's having a few things done and it could explain the additional time.

You can probably call the OR, tell them you are her daughter and ask if she is out yet. She may also be in recovery but not in a room yet.

Good luck!

Deep breath..... See if you can find a nurse and ask them for help.

I agree, it does sometimes take longer and they may not have started as soon as she was taken back.

Im sure every Dr. is different but she in good care. You would want them to address anything that could com up. It sounds like she is getting more than 1 procedure? You have 1 hour of prep and 1 hour of recovery and in the middle is the procedure time. Call the hospital if you have not done so and check on her progress I will be praying for your speedy healing.

It depends. I had a lot of scabbing around the GB from years of issues... they managed to keep from having to open me up, but they took their time and worked their way through the scar tissue carefully.

Yea, my mom has gallbladder issues for close to 10 years and just never went to have it removed.

My grandfather called and something happened and she wasn't able to be sleeved! He is too confused and didn't relay the readout well. The nurse got on the phone and said to call in 20 min and the surgeon will talk to me.

I wasn't able to be sleeved the first time around either, for me it was pretty minor. I had gall stones in one of my ducts that the surgeon couldn't get out & i needed to have an ERCP which requires tools that go through the stomach into the intestines to get to that duct from the other end. My stomach would have been too swollen to get the scope through had they done the sleeve.

Hopefully it's something like that with your mom. I had done a 2 week liquid diet before the procedure, it was a bummer to do that for nothing!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
