Taking Measurements Before Surgery

Recommended Posts

If you did this, which measurements did you take? I have a tendency to go overboard, and if I don't ask for a little guidance, I can imagine myself taking more measurements than I'd need to hand-stitch a customized ball gown. I'm assuming chest/waist/hips are standard measurements; what about thigh circumference, upper arms, etc? Or is that overkill?

Please advise. Thanks!

take measurements for an over complicated ball gown! Seriously, you will lose in places you had no IDEA you would lose from! Your ankles, your neck, (your feet will shrink), I took professional pictures, and have been doing so each month, but actual measurements are seriously mind blowing also. Even my wrists are smaller! Measure anything you want to see a difference in, because you certainly will see a HUGE difference :) Welcome to the losers bench!

Hi Vixynne,

I tend to take measurements of my thigh, arms, chest, stomach (i'm a guy), and waist weekly when i "weigh in". I dont know if is over kill or not but i know that once i have the surgery im going to want to keep track of my total body transformation so that is why i keep track of all those places.

Hope this help.....

PS im one of the lucky few people with insurances who dont require a wait/diet period so i'm hoping for a surgery date soon.

Thanks, Amy! I'll be officially on The Bench in just a week--I can't believe it! Part of me really wanted to measure everrrrrrything, but I figured I'd better check to make sure I wasn't going overboard.

I hope you get a surgery date soon, too! I'm in the same boat--no waiting period, no six month monitored weight loss program. My visits all went very quickly, but to be honest, I think my surgeon's office "fast-tracked" me because I'm a teacher. I need every possible moment of recovery during summer vacation that I can get! Good luck, and thank you for the advice, I appreciate it!

After two kids, my feet went from a size 7 1/2 to an 8 or 8 1/2 wide, depending on the shoe. I can't tell you how tired I am of buying clunky shoes that aren't CUTE! In one shoe store, after asking repeatedly about several adorable styles, "do you have this in wide?" and being told no, I lost my patience and said "Big girls want sexy shoes, too, y'know!" and walked out.

Time to make room in the shoe closet!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
