10 days post-op--shouldn't I be dropping pounds everyday?

Recommended Posts

Aloha All!

I was sleeved on 6/14 and so far I've dropped 14.5 pounds. The first 5 days I dropped 2 pounds a day, but in the last 5 days I've only dropped 4 combined. I was on the clear liquid diet. How is that possible that I didn't continue to drop every day?

I know it will come off, it just worries me that it's already slowing 10 days out and I'm not even eating real food yet. Am I destined to ALWAYS struggle with my weight (I don't eat and still won't lose)! That would only happen to me.

Any thoughts?

There's no "should" or "shouldn't," first of all. Sometimes the adjustment period where your body is trying to get used to being different happens earlier. And it sounds like you are still dropping, just not as fast as you expected. Expectations are your worst enemy!

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Keep moving. It WILL happen.

Just be patient, your body is freaking out wondering what is going on. It will happen, you WILL lose the weight, there is no way that you can't! You had your stomach taken out. Be patient, realize that your body is doing its best to protect itself. You will step on the scale and realize you are losing again before you know it. Dont get upset, dont get discouraged. It has happened to most if not all of us, just try to keep doing the things that you are supposed to do and it will work (stressing wont help at all). Before you know it, you will be posting that you made your first goal! You can do it! Just breathe and be patient!

This is typical for everyone. You will lose the weight in due time. There is something called the 3 week stall and that's the time your body is most likely adjusting in inches and restoring glycogen in the body. Everyone has a different rate of losing his/her weight and most will meet the goal weight lost with time. This is the time to sit back and enjoy the ride. Start noticing times when your getting trigger to eat foods and what the underlying emotions are to are causing the triggers. This is a roller coast ride. Overall, you are doing great! Keep it up.... :)

You are almost going to pass me! I was sleeved on May 31 and I've only lost 17 pounds. That's 17 ponds in 25 days! I was told you lose half a pond a day. Now I feel like I am not where I should be. You are doing so great.

You are going through the same thing I deal with daily. I get all disappointed when I don't lose at least a pound a day but when I do the numbers at the end of each week it's a little less than a pound a day. 4 pounds a week is nothing to dismiss - that's 14000 calories!

Through the scale away and enjoy the ride. Did you ever gain that much in that many days?

I'm only 2 weeks into it. My first week I was only down 2 lbs. This past week I've dropped almost 10. Everybody is different. Like it has been said before, we didn't put this weight on overnight, we can't expect it to come off overnight. Just work the program as you should and things will take care of themselves.

Don't rule out Water weight post surgery. You retain so much from the IV's, etc. It can take a long time to work it's way out. Try not to fret ... you have no choice but to lose weight.

Edit: Try not to compare with others although I know it's hard. So many different factors are there as to one's weight loss over anothers

My first week I was down 22lbs and really excited about that. This week (week 2) the scale doesn't seem to be budging. It's easy to be disappointed when we don't see the numbers move as we'd like. But don't get discouraged!!! Just keep on doing it right! And even though the number on the scale isn't moving, I'm finding my clothes fitting looser and my body changing-- just Celebrate those little things and keep a positive attitude. The weight will come off. :)

As long as you're following the 'plan' - your doctor's guidelines, you cannot help but lose weight. It didn't appear over night and will not disappear overnight. During my ENTIRE losing period, I went up and down, up and down. I NEVER had one morsel that could remotely be considered a no no, but still, I'd wake up and be up two pounds, but I never did panic, knowing it was just how I did it. The longest I ever did the up and down, holding on to a couple of lbs, was ten days. After doing this for a few days or a week....I'd get up, weigh and it would be gone for good. Then on to the next pound or two. It will be fine, have fun on this adventure!!!! Enjoy every single step!! Good luck!

scales are for fish......Don't weigh yourself so much...once a week is okay...once a month is better...you get a big surprise when you do it once a month......400 calories a day is not enough .......you will stall your loss by making your body panic....and hold your weight....Your body is designed to protect itself and it will...once it notices that you are still eating it will release weight again....

Protein drinks at this stage is still a good idea.....bring the calorie intake up with protein....drink Water as much as you can which helps flush out the crap that they put into you when you had the surgery...

And most of all....you are now geared to lose the weight and it will happen at the rate your body chooses.......Enjoy the weight you have lost and be proud of yourself for the care and choice you made to do this for yourself....

Best to you.....

Each of our journey is unique like us. I was down 12.5 pounds in 13 days. I don't know if or what I've lost this week as I don't use the scale. I see my doc on 7/15 and I'll find out then. Relax...You cant not lose.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
