August 2013 Roll Call

Recommended Posts

I still write down what I eat everyday and keep my food most days at over 60 grams of Protein, low carbs and less than 1000 calories.. I keep walkinng and running everywhere. Weight is coming off more slowly now but still coming off. I try not to cheat and have not had really any sweets to speak of. I look at this as my mission right now. To lose 20 more pounds is my goal, and in 4 months it can be done.

How's it going everyone? Great I hope! I hope everyone is still working hard and staying happy! I know if you hit a plateau it gets tough and frustrating, I am at that point myself right now. But you can't let it get you down. If anything, let it get you motivated to work harder. Maybe start redoing some exercises we may have had some success with but slowly got away from. Maybe relooking at our eating habits and making sure we are not slipping back into old ways. I recently looked at these things and it scared me what I was seeing. Time to get refocused! Stay strong everyone...we are all here for each other!

Howdy August folks,

I see some common threads here. I am down to a normal BMI but I'd like to get down further since I still have a jelly belly. I never lost fast to start with, like 8-10 lbs a month, and now it's 3-4 lbs a month. So frustrating. It will take as long to lose the last 20 as it did to lose the first 60 after surgery i fear.

-113.9 lbs since I started last August and feeling great! Down to a size 16 (from a 30/32) - wore a little black sequined dress & sky high Jimmy Choos to a wedding last week, danced every single dance and didn't even think abut the dessert table or the wedding cake! Hang in there everyone -- it's worth every second of this journey. Nothing tastes as good as being healthy and fit feels!!!! The carbs just aren't worth it when you see the results.

Hello August sleevers!

I now want to tell my story! August 2009 I got real sick. I kept having un-resolving Pneumonia. I was admitted into the hospital and the ICU. After two lung biopsies and a 3 month awesome stay at Sutter Medical Hospital, I was finally given the cause of my vacation! I was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis.. I was put on steroids for 6 months and went from 155 to 260 in 4 in a half months. I was chronically depressed. Overnight I couldn't fit any of my own clothes. I had to wear my husbands sweats until I was able to buy clothes. I never had to exercise or diet before so I didn't know how. I never had problems with weight or food.. That is not my story. I felt more helpless and hopeless than anyone. I couldn't think about diets for 2 years. I was on oxygen breathing at 67%. I had to use a walker all over again because of lying in a hospital bed for months! But don't feel bad for me I had a pimp out walker.. The first time I approached weight loss surgery I was denied twice. No surgeon would touch me.. They were concerned with my lungs. So I went diet crazy! I paid over thousands in the newest and fastest fad.. Nothing worked! I hated my life! To add insult to injury my doctors tell me I need to lose the weight because it as affecting my breathing.. And of course I have a sarcastic brain so I told them with a smile, "You gave me a pill to gain the weight now give me a pill to lose the weight!" So then my husband was transferred to Az. And to my surprise I found a doctor that was willing to perform weight loss surgery! I was scheduled August 28th 2013 and it was a success! I loss a total of 67lbs but been at a stall for the past 2 months! This sucks! But I have faith that I will get to my goal..

Congratulations Paula, 67 pounds is fantastic. What do you think has caused your stall? What does the nutritionist say? I really like Dr Juarez, but went to Dr. Arnold at St. Joes. He had similar dogs, I know sounds lame but it meant a lot to me, as I am all about the dogs. I am slowing down in my weight loss but it continues to go down. I eat around 800-900 calories a day and still do not have a lot of carbs. It seems to work. I should hit my goal which is similar to yours in about 10 pounds. Your weight will come off, keep on track and it will. Again congratulations.

It could be my sweet tooth, because I exercise and eat healthy.. Everyday! I just like my sweets too!

I just found this forum topic, mostly because I use mobile all the time, and don't have access to a desktop very often.

I was sleeved in August 2013.

Weight-loss has slowed, but it is still moving in the right direction. I am 8.8 lbs from MY goal and passed the Dr's goal about 10 lbs ago.

I am struggling with the return of some bad habits, but am trying some diversionary tactics. I am snacking, which is dumb, so I am trying to wait 15 minutes and drink Water instead. It works a lot of the time, but my issue is more the impulse eating than anything (seeing it, grabbing it, eating it before I really even think about it.) If I can get a hold of that, then I will be so much better off.

I've started a second job, and that will help a lot I think. ;o)

Congratulations on your weight loss. I am down 8 lbs below goal and am eating most everything and trying not to loose a lot more.. I also have to work on my impulse eating. It seems I eat ok in the morning and by mid afternoon I coulld eat my arm off. So afternoon and evening, like before surgery, are my slippery times. So far, this isn't effecting my weight loss, but I weigh myself daily to be sure I continue to not regain any weight.

I too weigh daily to keep on track. I have found eating at 10am, 2pm, high Protein snack at 4 and dinner between 6-8 is helping a lot. It was a plan recommended by my surgeon. Maybe that would help you?

Wow congratulations on everyone's progress!

I am down 96 lbs since survery on August 27, 2013. Best decision I ever made and wish I had done it sooner!

At 1 year post op:

I have completely changed my relationship with food and understand now why I ate my way to obesity..... emotional eater, eating because bored, portion sizes, and just eating plain ol' junk. My life if very different now - I make healthy choices and follow the plan. It is WORK and requires my complete focus to not backslide into old behaviors. Still do not experience hunger and frequently need to remind myself to eat. I never want to be obese again - so much to live for! There have been times where I made bad choices, ate the wrong things and I got on a roll a couple of times with backsliding. For example I can eat Cereal with milk like no one's business - eat WAY TOO MUCH Cereal because it is a slider for me. So now I avoid cereal like the plague. And some othe foods. I keep remembering something I saw on this board last year, "nothing tastes better than skinny". I keep that in mind and also remember why I made this life change....to live longer and be healthy.

Get in my Protein first (60g), then veggies and fruits. Water, Water, water :) exercise.

Blessings to all of you! Keep on keeping-on.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
