I feel like almost every question that I answer on the forum ends with "but make sure you check with your surgeon and follow his or her advice." I know others do the same. So I propose a new VST acronym: YSMV, or Your Surgeon May Vary--a riff on YMMV, or Your Mileage May Vary. What do you guys think? We may collectively save hours upon hours, right?

I think ysmv and ypmv both have merit...

YSARDPMV--your surgeon's and registered dietitian's plan may vary (j/k)

I do like having "surgeon" in there, though, bc too many people want to DIY their plans based on what someone else's surgeon may have said or done or whether someone else was eating popcorn 2 hours after surgery (lol)...etc.

LOL! SAFTPAS is awesome! I did eat some popcorn when I was on vacation a couple of weeks ago. I was thinking of the guy who posted his pic with great weight loss and said "This is me after eating some popcorn." LOL! I am normally so regimented with my plan but let myself have a few "treats" during vacation.

I can see what a slippery slope it could be. I really didn't overdo it but was not as focused on Protein, had a couple of cocktails, a few boardwalk fries, and yes, popcorn. And some pizza, not much crust. Ugh. I did go swimming or walking every day. But at the end of the day, I gained 4 lbs, bc my body likes it when I am very regimented. :-) I got it back off already (quicker than a normal loss--about 1 week) but if I had stayed on plan, I would probably be down at least another pound or two. LL (lesson learned).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
