If there was a Class Action Lawsuit against the band....

Recommended Posts

My first lap band was amazing. Second one has sucked, but I was informed and the band changed my life. Now having revision due to some complications. But I was aware of these complications. Sorry everyone's experience wasn't good.

I can't necessarily say that I would sue. I still have mine after 6 years. I am currently trying to get it converted to RNY. I've only lost 60 lbs and gained it all back. I was misinformed also. I was told it is meant to be permanent. I didn't realize my insurance wouldn't pay for the fills, fluoroscope, etc. my doctor I started with moved his practice so my closest bariatric doctor is 1.5 hours away, which may not seem so bad but when your work office is another hour in the opposite direction, it's kind of sucks. I have never gotten to my sweet spot and the doctor doesn't think I will ever get there. Was I misinformed? Yes. Maybe if I had a bunch more problems with my band, I would. But my band is more with inconvenience right now. It would be nice to get it out before there are more problems though

I would join. I had it done because I was original told they could take it out later. Eight years and 60 pounds later my surgeon will not take mine out because insurance will not pay and I have not had any "serious" complications. Stuck food/mucus, limited diet because I can not eat uncooked vegetables, and developing RA does not seem to matter.

Without a doubt! I've had this thing for 12 years and lost and gained the same 30 pounds the whole time I've had it. I'm getting rid of it on 2/13 and converting to the VSG on 3/16!

Yes I would definitely join as I listened to my Dr that assured me this was safe and 7 years in I have had 2 port revisions and a band revision and now it needs to come out from the damage it's done to my stomach. I don't know how they get away with selling these things. I did lose my weight and just now have gained some back but that's not the point. Health is the point and this device puts people at risk and it's a temporary fix at best. So either way we should want our money back.

I am looking for anyone experiencing post lap band removal problems. I am hoping someone who has had similar issues and found some kind of help somewhere. A lofty hope, I think, since I am not having any luck getting help. Not for lack of trying. If you are experiencing pain, nausea, and other issues POST lap band removal and have had success in improving your situation, please contact me. I have tried SO many things, with no improvement. I have terrible pain across my back, as well. I don't drink alcohol and my lipase has come back high more than once, but still no help with that yet either. So, primarily, I am looking for any solutions anyone has found, and trying to find people with a similar symptoms. I am not sure I want to stop there however. Apparently, thanks to a Supreme Court ruling in 2008 you can't sue for lap band problems. I still think I want to contact the FDA. Anyone with anything to add, it would be appreciated. Thanks!

I just had my lap band removed the past Wednesday, 4/26, and found out that I had a 5cc band, rather than the 10cc band. It caused me nothing but issues from 3 months post op in 2005. When the surgeon opened my up last week, he found out that my stomach had adhered itself to my liver with scar tissue and that this was the cause of my nearly 12 years worth of discomfort.

It's currently a slow-going recovery, with the gas pain and soreness being the worst of it. I plan to convert to the VSG in August, but I'm so nervous as I fully came to in the OR, after the surgery was complete. I've never experienced this and I'm terrified of it happening again. I honestly felt like I was dead and having an out of body experience seeing myself laying on the table. You can imagine my anxiety and panic when I initially came to. Once I realized it was the end of surgery I had a literal mental breakdown, causing great difficulty in getting me to relax in recovery.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
