Which airport did you fly into?

Recommended Posts

I'm researching doctors in MX, and a big part of the decision is airfare prices. If I use Alvarez, I'll be driving (which will take a day) but I'll have to fly for any of the others. My question is for those of you who flew for surgery in MX:

What doctor did you use, and what airport did you fly into, so that I can compare ticket prices?

Also, how far out did you book your surgery when you booked it? I'm hoping to get in quickly, and I don't know if there's usually a long waiting period or not.

I chose Dr. Garcia in Tijuana. I flew into San Diego airport. I had to change my surgery date to a week later but there were not problems with that. I had originally scheduled my surgery a week before I was going to have it.

Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. I flew into LAX for vaca and drove down to San Diego the day before pick up and was picked up at SAN. I flew out of San Diego. It was seamless and Dr. Aceves is fabulous.

Thanks for all the input so far! For those of you who don't mind, would you also list the price you paid? It'll also help with comparisons.

But only if you don't mind telling that info!

Dr Illan. I flew from Orlando into San Diego and paid around $250 for airline tickets.

Also, I don't know where you'd be traveling from, but I do know Southwest is currently having a decent fare sale. It's ending on 6/28/13 and is good for travel from Aug 26-Dec 18 with black-out dates for Thanksgiving.

Dr Aceves next month ($8750). Flying into San Diego ($350 R/T which is a rip off, seeing I only live 1100 miles from there. Seems it is cheaper to fly there from FL).

I would never drive a full day after surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
