Hi y'all,

I am getting banded on January 8th and I have a question about V-8 juice. Is this appropriate for the liquid stage? I like it but I don't know if it's too "heavy" a liquid for this stage. Also, could it be used eventually as a way of getting veggy nutrition if I drink it before starting to eat?

Thanks for your thoughts,

Susan

You will not have any problem with V-8 juice. The instructions are to sip (very little amounts) into your mouth. Swish the juice around your mouth and enjoy the flavor while it warms up. Then let it slide down, slow, small amounts. It my help if you pretend what you are eating and drinking is the most costly thing you have ever had. Savor it.

I really like V-8, but I didn't drink it right away after surgery becasue it's very acidic. I try to have it everyday to help get my veggies in. :) It does have a lot of sodium though...

My doctor said it was appropriate for just after surgery (he goes straight to full liquids, no clear liquid phase). Even the spicy one. The point is to not make the stomach churn, not to avoid flavor.

As with anything on this forum, if your doc's advise differs, of course go with that. Otherwise, enjoy!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
