June 10th Sleevers (or week of June 10th)

Recommended Posts

How are you doing? Have you started purées yet? Are you sipping still or can you take bigger drinks now? I would love to hear your stories... As for mine so far, here goes...

I am tolerating everything well. I definitely need to do better in getting Water in. I seem to do better during the week than the weekend as I am more focused on tracking things. I worked from home this past week and will next week, so I am tied to the home office which makes it easier to focus on what I am taking in. I find myself taking big drinks. I certainly don't mean to, but I forget easily. (It doesn't cause any pain, but I don't want to start any bad habits.)

I definitely get hungry, seems like I need to eat something small every 2 hours to curtail that. I MISS CRUNCHY I know that. I had a birthday party this weekend for my niece and it was extremely hard, much harder than I thought to not crave everything at the party. Too bad my sleeve can't take my cravings and food addiction away. The past 2 weeks has made me realize how addicted I truly am to food. It was a huge part of my life. I ate when I was happy, when I would socialize, when I was sad, mad, and on and on. This is something I am definitely going to have to fight.

I've lost a total of 30 pounds since my preop diet and 17 since my surgery date of 6/10. I can notice a major difference too in how things fit and how comfortable I am, I don't feel like a stuffed sausage anymore. ????

I look forward to hearing everyone's stories.

I was sleeved June 10th as well. I feel like I was reading my story in yours. I dont start pureed till tomorrow but I had a bite of light babybel cheese chewed into an oblivion yesterday and 2 oz of milky cream of wheat. Other than that I've stayed completely to liquids for this past 2 weeks. As of last Tuesday, 8 days post op, I had lost 14 since surgery, 26 since pre op diet. I havent lost weight in the past 5 days. How is that even possible???? Ive lost inches though, my clothes are much looser.

I can take bigger drinks now. I try really hard to get all my liquid in but Protein has been tough. I couldn't stomach Protein Shakes anymore. I forced one down this morning. Had good energy today. I guess too much. I wore my first pair of regular pants and think they rubbed incision by my belly button wrong because I noticed I had blood on my shirt and pants. My incision had opened. The bleeding stopped and I put some steri strips on it. Was so looking forward to swimming next weekend. Now I feel like it was just a huge setback.

I'm a June 10th too! I've lost 30 lbs total so far (10 from pre-op and 20 post-op). I am getting close to getting in the liquids each day, but am no where near the amount of Protein I need. I just bought the New whey Protein Bullets in grape and I hope that will help. I am so sick of shakes!

I'm not allowed to start purees until next Monday but I cannot wait. I have been to family social gatherings involving some really good food and it has been tough, but I've realized as I eat my Soup that I'm not really hungry, it's just in my head.

I meet with my NUT for the first time this Friday so hopefully I will get some more advice and info then. I'm also going to a support group at my hospital next month so I'm fingers crossed that this is all worth it!

I don't think we would be the best ones to help you. We are only 2 weeks post-op. Might want to check with others that are further out.

I'm a June 10th-er too. Surgery went well, went home next day. Only real pain I had was gas pain day 1 post-op. It was horrible! Felt much better the next day. About 5 days our more or less, developed a rash over my entire stomach. Contacted my surgeon's office and the nurse said to try Benedryl, which thankfully did help. Had a follow-up with my PCP last Thursday. She thought the rash was contact dermatitis, maybe from the adhesives they used during surgery. Down 12.4 lbs since surgery. First week was only about 2. Walking 3 miles every morning since about day 8 post-op.

Have my follow-up tomorrow with the surgeon and the NUT. Cannot wait to move onto the next phase of this diet! I am very tired of Protein shakes and although I manage to get the minimum recommended daily amount of Protein in, it's getting harder to choke them down! Water is going down great and have no problem getting all that in.

Starting to feel a little hunger now that i am 2 weeks out. In the beginning didn't feel hungry at all. It's not the same though. It's not the stomach growling I-need-to-eat-now kind of hunger, but different. It's hard to explain.

To Ajhr - Maybe post your question in the general VSG section. We are all pretty new to this way of living and maybe more people will read your question there and be able to help. The only suggestion I have is to maybe call your MD or speak to a NUT. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
