Is it ok to take Immodium?

Recommended Posts

Hey folks,

Just had a really bad bout of loose stools last night and I feel them coming back today and I'm 5 days post surgery. Do any of you ever take immodium to slow the stools down? Not sure if it's a good idea or not.

Thanks,

Brian

I did the same thing 6 days post op. I called my dr and he told me to take a teaspoon of pepto. Good luck hope you feel better soon.

I had a similar situation about the same time, I HAD to go out to attend a wake and didn't want to be anxious or have to race to a bathroom so I did take an Immodium and it helped and I was fine after that. Good luck.

I would start with the pepto. Constipation is a side effect of the immodium and the constipation is worse than loose stools.

I've been sitting here wondering the same thing. I'm having the same problem and I have a wedding I need to be at in a couple hours...

My Dr said yes, it was ok to take. But to be careful so you don't take too much and become constipated.

My doctor told me to take Immodium for that problem. I only had Pepto in my house one night and had to use it post-op. He said he preferred Immodium so you should be okay in taking it. It does get better after you get off of that post-op liquid diet. (((hugs)))

Thanks for all of the support! What makes it worse for me is that at this time I'm wheel chair bound and well...moving quickly is not so easy!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
