I had my sleeve done here on 6/4- just wondering if there were any other Bragg wives on this site?

I am, have my list all scheduled except for the pre-op and last meeting with Jasmin. Do you know about PCSing overseas after the surgery, I can't seem to get a straight answer. One person I talk to says 1 year after a non-complicated VSG another says 3 years from last bariatric hospital stay.

Hi! No, I haven't heard that you cannot PCS after bariatric surgery. If you have no complications, I don't see why it would be an issue unless there is not a hospital where you are PCSing to. Have you asked Jasmin or one of the doctors?

Who is your surgeon? I had Dr. Perkins- LOVE her!

it is the overseas part, the screening team for the Marines says something like 3 years after last hospital admission for gastric bypass (of course there is nothing about VSG). It reads like a mandated order, kind of like the mandatory 2 year EFMP enrollment after depression diagnosis they started. Nobody at Bragg knows the answer (maybe b/c we are Marine Corps) and I can't get the screeners to talk to me about it. GRRRRRR

How are you feeling so far?

Maybe the EFMP office might know?

I am feeling really good so far. I've had no complications and everything is healing up nicely. I'm still a little sore around the area of my incisions, but I barely notice.

Did the military do your surgery?

So I had a friend who did her WLS while in stationed in Germany. If you are an Army family (I am assuming cause you are at Ft Bragg) then have your Soldier enroll you in the EFMP (exceptional family medical program). This will prevent your Soldier from PCSing to a location that you won't have access to proper medical care after surgery. Hope that helps.

I'm a Bragg wife and am supposed to be having the VSG. I emailed Jasmin a month ago and just found out last week that she is no longer working at Womack. The Bariatric coordinator will not call me back (one week and counting) and I'm losing faith in the program. It's like they've left us out here alone with no real point of contact. It really concerns me because who are we supposed to contact if we have problems post surgery? Sorry to complain. This has all become very frustrating. Does anyone know if Jasmin has been or will be replaced? Is there anyone else to contact besides Caron Toney? Maybe she is gone too.

Every Army hospital has a patient advocate. I am not at Bragg anymore, but you should be able to find a number for them in the hospital's directory. I have found that often a phone call to them gets issues handled pretty quickly or at least gets me in touch with the right people. Also remember that because of the furloughs civilian employees have been required to take one day a week off. It's left some already understaffed offices even more burdened.

Jasmin has not been replaced yet, the only person there is Caron Toney who is an admin, but not a nurse, and not the bariatric coordinator. I work at Womack and I can tell you that because of the hiring freeze, there will most likely not be a replacement for Jasmin until the new fiscal year in October unless they can find someone from within the hospital to take her place.

I have had issues with Caron returning my calls as well, but just keep trying her. I do not bother to leave a voicemail, I just keep calling. Don't forget that she is off one day per week because of the furlough as well, but that should end this week, so hopefully things will get back to normal.

Thank you both for your input. I'm going to keep trying. If I can't contact Caren in the next week, I'll get in touch with the patient advocate. :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
