So I just sent in my health report in today. When I was 12 yrs old, they discovered I was born with my pancreas wrapped around my stomach/ : google annular pancreas . I am now 51 and Dr.Valensuela said it would be considered a "revision" due to possible scar tissue . So, it would be another $1000.00 has anyone else had anything similar ? Crap, it wasn't weight loss surgery and I have never had problems since. I don't know who to try next, I really can't go above $5,000. Help, I wanted this done in July on my vacation. Thank you for your responses.

Also, what is the leak test?

While I can't address the first part, the leak test to which you refer is, I believe, what was done the day after my surgery before I could be released from the hospital. Essentially, it's a fluoroscopy. I had to drink gastric thinner followed by barium while standing in an x-ray machine - they watched the liquid go through my new sleeve to see if there was any bubbling in spots and to ensure the liquid went entirely through my digestive tract. They do this to make sure there are no leaks in the newly stapled stomach line before they can release you - part liability, part safety of the patient :).

I couldn't say for certain, but why don't you give Dr. Illan a try? I loved him as my surgeon and he tends to be a little closer to the lower end, as far as cost. I think he also actively practices as a general surgeon, too, so he may be more comfortable with your particular condition.

His website is bajabariatrics.com. Also, I think mysurgeryoptions is partnering with him (it's a company owned by the owner of the forum/website and staff includes at least one person who is an admin for the forums) if you want to go through an actual coordinating company.

Sweet, I lived in Jax in Mandarin until a year ago. Gainesville is nice, but I really, really miss Jacksonville.

I imagine that's a bit of a shock to your system! There isn't a whole lot in common from Gainesville to Jacksonville. I have lived in Jax for years and have lived on almost every side of town. :) I currently live on the Northside, near the Dames Point. I moved about 3 months ago from the Intercoastal West area, near UNF...and it's been a little bit of a shock. I imagine it's less of a shock than moving to Gainesville, though. Did you move with work or a partner or it was just what you needed to do?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
