Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted December 29, 2006 Hello all, I am getting banded tomorrow. I just read on another board where someone who was going through menopause and on hormones said they are not losing weight. This scared me. I am on hormones too and I have wondered about that. Does anyone know if this makes a difference in weight loss? Thank you. You have all been so wonderful! Denise
beachgirl 2 Posted December 29, 2006 I'm taking them and have lost 61 pounds in 5 months. I don't think it will affect you much if any. Good luck.
Jachut 487 Posted December 29, 2006 Everyone's different and one of the sad things about menopause is women tend to lose their natural protection against heart disease and the like and at the same time begin to gain weight in a more male pattern - around the middle and the internal organs. Menopause is a time when women do tend to suddenly get heavier and I do think it could be causing you problems. As you age, its so very important to exercise to maintain your muscle mass and protect yourself against getting fatter due to your body composition changing, even if your weight doesnt. Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted December 30, 2006 I do exercise frequenly. I joined a gym 3 years ago but didn't lose anyweight, even with working out 6 days a week. That's why I decided to get the lap band. I hope now I can lose. I have to take them because I have terrible insomnia and the hormones help with that. 1/3 of all women get insomnia after they go through menopause. I wish I was in the other 2/3rds!
