Four days post-op, need some resassurance :(

Recommended Posts

So I feel like I've been doing relatively well. My surgery was Tuesday June 18th, I got released late Wednesday, I haven't thrown anything up. I'm mostly able to walk around and I seem to be really dropping weight, whoo~

My stomach is SUPER rumbly, though. It's loud. And I can't sleep well, and I am always tired. I usually work ~fifty hours a week and I have no clue what to do with myself since I basically have to stay home and rest up; I'm actually tired of video games and TV but I don't really have the energy to do anything else, and generally everything I read about the first week sucking is extra true in a way that I had somehow told myself it wouldn't be. Optimist brain, 0; reality of major surgery, 1. :\

When did you guys start feeling like people again?

Each day gets easier! I went back to week in 2 weeks but was feeling normal after 8-10 days.

I did take naps the 1st week.

umm lets see.. feeling better.. last tuesday.. LOL no not really in all seriousness... it takes a few weeks before a normal feeling sets in.. I worked 80hrs a week.. and when I was off.. omg.. I was so bored.. there is only so much tv you can watch..and so much games to play..and so much to do on the puter.. I slept off and on.. walked a bunch..and sip sip sipped.. then got to go back to work on some restrictions.. but right now I can honestly say i feel normal.. no issues..no pain.. no funny feelings.. so I eat what I want.. no hunger.. I eat very little and have no desires for anything.. most important to me is Protein and getting my fluids..wt is dropping slowly now but that is ok.. I figure 96lbs in 6mo is decent wt loss.. my doc says ive passed my goal wt for a year in 6mo time.. but I have 40lbs to go.. I will and can do this.. best of luck to you on your new journey.. keep up the good work.

I didn't go back to work as a physical therapist for 5 weeks. I felt like crud for 1 week, poorly the second week, poor on the 3rd week but by week 4 I was feeling fair, good by week 5 and now I am doing very well. I still get weak if I don't eat enough or god forbid I eat too much. Every day it gets easier. Hang in there and start getting back to the rest of your life as you can. It's a long journey so 1 day won't make or break you, hang in there!

The first few days are the most difficult. I was also used to working a lot of hours, and am pretty darn tough, and I'm still surprised at how this surgery kicked my ass! I also felt like it must just be me, because so many people come on here and say they feel fine. Anyway, each day does get a little better. You'll probably gradually notice it over time, but by about 6 weeks, I was doing great. Now, at 6 months, I feel better than I have in years. Just hang tight, find something you enjoy to occupy your time, and you'll be up and running in no time!

This sounds exactly like my post a couple of days ago. We had the same surgery date, June 18. My worst days were days 1 and 2. I have felt a lot better today, but I still get tired a lot and usually take a long nap every afternoon. I'm ready to be over that stage bc napping makes me feel icky the rest of the day. My doctor has me on pureed foods since coming home and eating 4 teaspoons. My hardest part is taking my Vitamins. I will get easier each day!

P.S. My rumbling stomach seems to be getting better each a day also.

Week two, the loud rumbles stopped.

Week three, I felt normal but tired.

Week four, I started exercising again and took few naps, but went to bed by 9.

Week five(now), exercising daily, up till 10:30ish, no naps!

Getting better each day!

Basically the exact same but I am starting week 4. I went swimming today and did laps. I tolerate everything well and feel normal. Week 3 was the real turning point for me

End of week 2 was when I started to feel like myself again....of course, minus the eating part! :o

I'm 2 weeks and 1 day out.

The beginning of the 2nd week. I was off pain meds for my sprained neck and my umbilical hernia repair. hehe The pain meds were rarely for my sleeve. My stomach isn't so noisy. I sleep like a rock but I'm still sore when I wake up. I seriously love my naps. I feel like I do nothing and then I'm on my bed, in my jammies, and out cold for the next couple of hours!

I'm restless but don't have any extra energy besides healing right now.... I've VERY glad I don't go back to teaching next week. The mental drain alone would be a total killer. :O/

I had mine the same day...felt great days 1-2, miserable days 3-5, and better yesterday & today, so it sounds like different for all of us! I am mostly tired of dwelling on this and want to just move on, but here I find myself looking for more answers! After perseverating on this process for a year I told my family I want to stop talking about it on July 1. No more questions; I don't want my identity to be WLS Lady! I have read and researched it to death, and yet I'm still comforted by reading all your posts! I know...it makes no sense! ????

GrassMom- It is sort of like AA. Recovering Alcoholics get comfort in meeting together and telling their stories. I guess we are mostly all food addicts in recovery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
