I made it through the surgery! Got home last night and I'm taking it somewhat easy at home today. First day after surgery was a bit painful, but not as bad as I thought it might be. Had a hard time taking down pills and so on, but yesterday and today It's been easier to take things down.

Question for past sleeved people, how did you get past the thoughts of missing the fun of sitting at a table for lunch or supper or missing that "fullness" of eating? I'm not really hungry at all (which helps) but just have that feeling that I'm missing out on conversations when others are eating. I'll just have to bring my water bottle or half juice/water mix and join in I guess, right?

Looking forward to hear from other June sleevers on how they're doing!?

Brian

I had my sleeve done on June 10th. I am having difficulty with "eating with my family". Since I have to get in 80 g of Protein a day, I take my bottle of Isopure with me, or broth. Warm broth makes me feel like I am eating something. I do try and sit with them because I want to get over my issues with food. But several times I did have to just leave the table. This is harder than I thought because I'm not hungry, I just want it! I have a couple days left of Clear Liquids and then I can have full liquids and cottage cheese! So excited about that and have never really cared for it in the past. I'm down 27 pounds since my pre-op appointment. I just hope it gets easier.

We had a big family party last weekend, and I was able to avoid not eating while everyone else was by volunteering to feed my 14 month old nephew. So I was still at the table but I was able to keep busy so I didn't feel like I was missing out. At work, I have been walking on my lunch break so I avoid the break room and just eat/drink at my desk. I know I can't just avoid social eating situations, but in another week I will be on soft foods, so I can start eating out without a problem.

This is one of the things that has been the hardest during my pre-op diet. Just sitting at the table while others are eating...can be awkward and I HATE when people are like "OH, sorry I feel bad eating in front of you." FOr some reason that just really annoys me...like I have no self control or something. I am probably just being sensitive because I am on day 12 of my 14 day liquids...haha My surgery is June 25th and I am so worried about missing out on the social situations and the food.

I just went to my first social situation and by the way, they had great food there! But I didn't even mind because everyone was telling me how great I looked. Trust me when I say food is nothing compared to that feeling!!!

I was sleeved June 4th. This past week was my first experience post-surgery eating out. I wasn't looking forward to it! I looked up the menu online, it was a mexican place, and saw they had a side of veggies. I had tried refried Beans previously and they didn't settle well. Not bad, just uncomfortable and GASSY!! :o So I planned ahead to get the veggies. I ended up having a great time. I had a Protein shake about 2 hours before at home. I didn't even miss the chips/salsa. Everyone was munching on those and I was fine. Hard to believe! I ate maybe 1/4 of the tiny side plate of veggies and I was full. I took the rest home and had 3-4 more meals off of that tiny side order! Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that possible. I can already tell, my grocery bill will be going down, down, down!!

Congratulations on your surgery and best of luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
