What is considered a sip?

Recommended Posts

What is a sip? Not to sure I know how to sip anything? I'm still pre op but I'm trying to prepare mentally on all the new ways to eat/drink. How much is too much in a sip?

your stomach will tell you. At first try teeeeenie sips constantly, but in my casr (two weeks out) I can take a fairly normal swallow with no pain. Don't plan on chugging anytime soon, and avoid carbonation!

I can swallow a normal sip, not a gulp, without any problems now 2.5 weeks out. I just can only take a sip every 7-10 minutes depending on what I am drinking or else I feel full.

a table spoon. I practiced sipping by measuring 1/4 cup of Water and taking FOUR sips from it.. that makes each sip a tablespoon...

Turns out I didn't need all the practice though.. My sleeve had no problem handling regular size swallows of Fluid right from the beginning... I never really had to do the small "sips" nor did I have to space out my fluids because it just ran right through my sleeve as fast as I'd drink it! I'm three months out and I just got back from working out and chugged half a 16 ounce water.. waited about two minutes and chugged the other half.... My sleeve is very good to me!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
