Pre-Op Liquid Diet Day # 2

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! My name is Carrie and I am new to the forums. I began my journey yesterday, June 21st, which was Day #1 of my Pre-Op liquid diet. I did really well, except that I had a slight headache. Woke up this morning feeling pretty good and no headache yet. :-) I am scheduled for my VSG on Tuesday, June 25th. Any advice is welcome! Thank you.

No advice from me since I haven't been sleeved yet. I have my meeting with my surgeon on Monday in fact, so it could be coming up soon! I did want to wish you well tho & imagine how gorgeous you're going to be since you're so pretty now! Good luck! Keep us informed of your journey!

So excited for you. I believe the hardest part is the pre-op liquid diet. But it is a great mental boot camp for your lifestyle change. Everyday remind yourself - that this liquid diet part is NOT forever. I am 5 months out..and I can barely remember the 2 weeks of liquids. Although at the time-- it felt really hard. I have no regrets having been sleeved. Every time I pass somebody who is obese - I just want to holler out to them and say - I HAVE FOUND THE ANSWER- go get sleeved. It is a new lease on life. It makes weight just fly off your body--of course-you still have to make the right food choices. Good luck - keep us posted. And remember- if you are starting to get fed up and cranky---the liquid part is not forever.

Oh Wow! Thanks so much for the advice! Congratulations on you being 5 weeks out. How are you feeling? I am so scared about having complications after the surgery. I have one friend who had the Bypass and had numerous issues the first couple of months, but is super skinny now and is a little over a year out. My other friend was sleeved and had no pain, no nausea, no nothing! I was like, "Really?!?!?" I want and am hoping for the same thing. My doc only put me on a 4 day liquid pre-op diet. How come I am seeing people posting different lengths of time for them? Does it depend on how heavy you are? Some say 7 days, some 2 weeks, etc.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
