Favorite protein powders or rtd

Recommended Posts

I thought it might be a good idea to start an ongoing thread on favorite Protein powders and rtd products to help others find one they like. At least they will be picking from among what others have called "the best".

I will start.

My favorite morning whey is muscle milk light cake batter. Love the flavor. Second favorite morning whey is Matrix Cookies and creme (if i am out f my beloved cake batter). My favorite post workout shake is amplified Wheybolic 60 cookies and creme from GNC. I would be open to a better post workout shake if you have one. No real complaints about his one; I just know there is something better though. My favorite bedtime Protein Shake is Good Standard chocolate Supreme Casein. I guess I do like a good rich chocolate flavor at night. Casein at night really helps with leaning out overnight. Do not be afraid to try it. :) You can probably tell I like the "sweet" flavors for my shakes. Not into the fruit flavors.

Now what about you?

Oooh! I didn't know Syntrax made a mint cookie flavor. Is this one of the nectar Sweets? I like the vanilla bean torte and the double stuffed cookie. One scoop of each in 16 oz Water is awesome!

I ordered it at www.mybariatricpantry.com they have a lot of really good stuff on that site and they sell sample packages of different flavors for you to try. :)

I like Syntrax the best - seem to be lowest calories/highest Protein and lots of yummy favors. I tend to go with chocolate so that I can "spruce it up" with sugar free flavorings. Right now I am using Matrix 5.0 mint cookie for the first time. I use it in my coffee. It is very good, but being such a huge bag I am kind of in the mood for a change.

I use Premier (30g) and then if I'm low on my Protein for the day I'll put the Premier rtd shake in a blender with a scoop of Unjury unflavored powder and a 1/2 banana + ice. That will get me about 55g of protein and a different flavor.

I really like Syntrax nectar Cherry, and Syntrax Nectar Roadside Lemonade in cherry, and raspberry SF Jello jigglers, respectively.

Also, G3 (Gatorade), is probably my favorite, followed by Isopure Zero Carb RTD.

My fav was unjury chicken (didn't upset my stomach in the first few days) and GNC Gold Standard in French Vanilla Creme. Pre-op, I preferred chocolate, but couldn't stand it post-op.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
