Progress and Affirmations

Recommended Posts

I will love myself today. I will give myself a compliment each time I pass a mirror...

JK!! Not those kinds of affirmations! Actually, my decision to not tell anyone about the surgery was totally affirmed today. I decided to share it with my boss since I will be needing time off and will not be able to go to market this year (I work in the juvenile industry and we go to the huge baby expo in Vegas every year to find new products-- tons of walking, dinners, drinking.... not the kind of thing you want to subject yourself to 3 weeks out from surgery), and guess what the response was?! "You're not doing one of those things where you can only wat like a spoonful at time are you? That's so drastic. Are you sure that's the best thing to do? You know it doesn't always work, I mean look at that one girl. Where was she from? Oh yeah, she was that one singers daughter, maybe she was a singer herself. She did that and she gained all that back. Can't you just do something less drastic? Have you tried everything. I mean, I know you've tried harder than anyone I know to lose weight, but.............." On and on and on. I kid you not. At 26 minutes, it was the longest non-work related call I've ever had with her. So that was the blaring, bright red "RIGHT CHOICE" sign I needed.

Also, today I finished the last of the tests and paperwork I need for insurance approval! My app goes to insurance on Monday and then the waiting game. Wish me luck!

Have a great weekend everyone :)

I feel the same way only I just took vacation time off work to have it done. You should hear the office chatter about people that have lost weight. SHE had THAT surgery like it's a bad thing. I believe everyone is different and only they know what the best choice is for them. You will do great!

What happened to you made me laugh. It has happened to me too. When you reveal something so intimate to another person that you feel should know about the surgery, you want their support and attention not a criticism or a lecture, granted I am sure it was out of concern.

My favorite was how Sharon Osbourne was brought up and how she had the lap band removed, so I should be smart like her. LOL Are you flipping kidding me? Look where being "so smart" has gotten me... obese and on my way to a grave.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
