Looks vs. Health...looks 1 health 0

Recommended Posts

I also did it for looks, which in turn will help me get healthier. I am tired of not going out because I am embarrassed over the amount of weight I gained. What kind if life is that. I know I shouldn't care what anyone else thinks, but that doesn't make me feel better when I am stuffed into a pair of jeans with double chin that has a mind of its own. So cheers to us who not only want to feel better, but look good while doing it!

I did this for looks primarily. My husband is hot and I use to be hot right along with him. I want us to be that power couple again! However, I have a long family history of hbp, diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol etc. I want to prevent those issues instead of trying to do something about after the fact. So yes my first thought is wanting to wear and swim suit, shorts and tight dresses and not be embarrassed, then my health.

For me it was health, but once I decided to have the operation, I chose my goal weight on looks. I'm sure I would be just as healthy at a higher BMI, but I like the way my current BMI looks on me. But I wouldn't have had such a drastic operation for looks. that's just me. I won't be having plastics to fix my saggy skin either. My skin is not bad enough to cause health issues and I'm just not up for the pain, expense and scarring.

Part of that is hubby has always found me attractive and overall I'm confident in myself. And part is my age. Just how good do I have to look at nearly 60? I feel I look plenty good for my age.

Looking better is certainly the side benefit we all look forward to! I had lost enough weight to get off all my mess prior to surgery and told my husband I felt like I must only be going forward for vanity. The truth is, I was just tired of being fat and everything that it encompasses.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
