8 MONTHS -90 POUNDS - YA!

Recommended Posts

8 months post-op on 6/11/13 - down 90 pounds. While this sounds like a lot, the loss has slowed down considerably the past 4 months, or so(down 2 up 1.5, down 3, up 1, etc., etc.) Since I've made it to onderland, its been hard to get below 190. Finally at 90 pounds lost total (since pre-op last August), weighin in at 188 on 6/11/13, I am nearing my 100 pound goal. Hope everyone is doing well. I feel and look younger than I have in years! It's been hard, but so worth it! Happy summer and last day of school (I work in an Elementary School office) - yipee! :)

Congratulations to you Holly! 90 pounds is something definitely worthy of a celebration! Will you please share with me what's been the hard part? I'm not sleeved yet so trying to gather all the info I can. I do meet with the surgeon on Monday tho, so it could be soon!

I am a food addict. Post-op, I found holes in my day that I used to fill with my food obsession (cooking. Food shopping, reading recipes, searching on line for recipes, etc.) as well as eating way too much. Now I am focusing on doing stuff not stuffing me! It's very hard on days when I would typically turn to food for comfort. I really can't binge eat at all. When I eat too much, I'm very uncomfortable/in pain- it's how you feel you feel overfull and sick so you throw up, only you can't throw up, the stomach is too small and if wont let you purge. The food just comes up your throat-horrid! One day at a time!

Holly, thank u for posting. Wow eye opener for me, i never thought abt the food obsession stuff. Sounds like what i do/did.

I've become aware that i cant watch cooking shows, look at food related magazines, etc or it sets me off. Thanks for your honesty and for sharing. I'll be much more aware now.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
