Feeling like a girl!

Recommended Posts

So after years of laughing at my cousin and mum for complaining about period pains every month..... I'm in agony, do ya think I'm being punished for every time I made them a hot water bottle or gave them a painkiller and laughed?

I'm 26, post op 5 weeks today and I've never ever had regular visits from Mother Nature. I've been having weird abdominal pains for 2 days and now it's so painful and heavy. I'm laying here knowing I need to get my butt out off bed and go to work but it's just not happening.

If this is what it's like normally, I'm sorry I laughed, seriously I'm sorry - this is horrible!

Now please can one of you lovely ladies tell me it's related to surgery and only a one month special kinda deal :)

You aren't alone, Aunt Flo was vengeful with me the first time she visited after my surgery. I actually hear its fairly common...something about the weight loss causing a hormone release. It should get better over the next few months..although some women do experience longer changes in their cycle. If the abdominal pain concerns you..or doesn't lessen with your next cycle..I would ask my surgeon...better safe than sorry right? Hope you feel better!

Are you taking an NSAID such as Motrin? I would, if your surgeon okays it (you would want to take with a gastric-protective agent prescribed by your doctor too, like omeprazole). It's important to stay on top of the pain--once it starts, it's tougher for the NSAIDs to work bc prostaglandin response has already occurred. The trauma of surgery can affect your cycles, as can the release of excess estrogen stored in adipose tissue (fat) when you lose weight. This may be an ongoing thing, but good your body is regulating itself better already. Hang in there!

Okay... So as someone who has no clue what p pains feel like I thought that's what's happening. However last 2 days I've barely drank any liquids and I reckon it was my bladder screaming at me. I've drank maybe 16oz so far and already that pain has subsided :) yay back to laughing at the cousins

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
