I hope you're doing better:) I'm so sorry things didn't go more smoothly. Please update us on how you are doing.

Well I am now 5 days post op and unfortunately for me it did not go so easy. I developed a large hematoma (bleed) at one of the incisions so ended up spending an extra day in the hospital and with quite a bit of pain. We are still at the hotel across the border in TX and will probably stay for another several days as there is no way I feel that I am ready to travel back home. I am still having quite a bit of pain, a low grade fever and my abdomen remains very swollen and is completely bruised from the blood leaking under the skin.

The staff at the hospital were fine, the hospital was clean and nurses were competent. Dr Alvarez and his staff were all amazing and came in to check on me at least 3 times a day. Even now at the hotel he and his staff are in contact.

I will continue to update as things progress.

Sorry to hear that :( Hope you're well enough to travel soon. Nothing like your own bed and house to comfort you when you're back. Hang in there.

I just want to add.... Dr. Alvarez mentioned on his radio show last night that he doesn't like the phrase "customer service". He doesn't think of his Patient's as "customers". He thinks of us as "family". I really believe he is sincere about this. He shows a great deal of care and concern about us, not only during surgery, but long after. He has "reunions" to be able to stay in contact with us. I really believe he wants to see us all be successful. It's not a marketing ploy.

It's a get together for all of his patients... He gives a seminar, there's food and dancing from what I hear. It's being held at the Embassy Suites in Memphis. You can go on his website for more info

Dr. Alvarez and his staff are amazing. I was sleeved on 5/31 and was overwhelmed by the support and care I received (and am still receiving post-op). I had absolutely no pain or sickness - they were always on top on meds to make sure I was comfy. No issues with traveling to/from Mexico' date=' it was a breeze. Hospital room was recently updated and was a good size for me and hubby. The hospital is being renovated on some floors, but wasn't an issue noise-wise or otherwise.

Wouldnt trade my experience, even if money was no object,

I am hopefully going to type up my story this weekend. Feel free to msg me with questions.[/quote']

My dr is Alvarez and I am going in Nov. how are you doing now? Getting nervous here lol. How have the life changes been

Do not be nervous about surgery, it is pretty quick and the pain is very bearable. Dr. A and his staff will take great care of you and you will be amazed at how little pain there is. My 24 year old daughter had never had a surgery and she breezed right through it :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
