I think that's an old rumor... after all, Mexicans drink water.. LOL. If you're concerned, I'm sure they have bottled Water everywhere you go.

I was just there, left today. The Water goes through a purify system inside the hospital. The ice is made from the same water. However I'm not giving a 100% guarantee, this was what my husband told me that one of the nurses told him!!

The ice was very good, and I'm not sick from it... I really wouldn't worry about that at all bc I'm sure the water is clean. On another note, everyone there is absolutely wonderful and you will have excellent care! Good luck!

I was there last August and the ice and Water are both purified. You have no need to worry about that. I will be there in August again, taking my daughter to have surgery with Dr. Alvarez. He is simply the best.

Dr. Alvarez is awesome. I had more worries then problems, but Dr. Alvarez was concerned, took all my fears seriously and called and emailed to address each and every one. How many Dr's do you know that will call you on Sunday afternoon just to reassure you. He also sent a Thank you card for allowing him to be my Surgeon. Not only is he a skilled Surgeon, he's also sincere, compassionate and humble. I'm a Nurse, and I don't know any Surgeons in the Orlando area that are that "Patient centered" Once the surgery and post op appt. are completed, you never see or hear from them again. Dr. Alvarez encourages his Patient's to stay in touch with him. I wish he would move his practice to Orlando.

I had surgery last August with Dr. A. and just returned home today from taking my daughter to Dr. Alvarez for sleeve surgery. :-)He is truly the kindest Dr. That I have ever met. He did so good with my daughter, she had never had a surgery in her life. He took the time to talk with her about everything that he would do before the surgery and what she could expect after. She told me that she really expected it to be much more painful than it was. I recommend him so often because he is really there for his patients, long after the operation is over.

You won't be sorry that you chose to go to him. He is wonderful, as is Dr. Gabe and his other staff.

Well I am now 5 days post op and unfortunately for me it did not go so easy. I developed a large hematoma (bleed) at one of the incisions so ended up spending an extra day in the hospital and with quite a bit of pain. We are still at the hotel across the border in TX and will probably stay for another several days as there is no way I feel that I am ready to travel back home. I am still having quite a bit of pain, a low grade fever and my abdomen remains very swollen and is completely bruised from the blood leaking under the skin.

The staff at the hospital were fine, the hospital was clean and nurses were competent. Dr Alvarez and his staff were all amazing and came in to check on me at least 3 times a day. Even now at the hotel he and his staff are in contact.

I will continue to update as things progress.

Do u mind if I ask why u had to get a EKG?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
