The good, the bad & the ugly... Mexico Bariatric Center, Dr. Kelly, MI Hospital

I have booked with Christy from MBC also, and she has been very prompt at returning my emails with answers to all my questions. So far, I have been impressed.

I wouldn't use a coordinator when you can book directly with the surgeon, especially a surgeon as experienced and kind as Dr Kelly. When you use a coordinator you take things out of his hands.

MBC had an irate client when I was at florence. It's not just with the hospital switch. It's a shame they lie and say that site is his official site. They mostly use it to switch to cheaper Drs.

I hope all goes well. Kelly is great. MBC is just abit shady IMO. Too many bait and switches. What I don't understand is why wouldn't you book directly at the same price and get the better package that Doc Kelly gives you. Both packages are NOT the same! Anyways... good luck on your upcoming surgery.

Thank you SO MUCH for posting this! I was very close to paying my deposit with Dr. Valenzuela through MBC and you made me take a better look at Dr. Kelly as an option. I love the idea of a newer/ better equipped hospital and hotel, again thanks so much for sharing!

So... have you made a decision? Pick a great doctor, a respectable hospital and... most of the hotels are all similar. Good luck!

I went through MBC as well and wasn't too impressed. Although Christy answered several questions, I didn't receive an answer to some. They changed the hospital on me too. Dr Kelly never came by my hotel to do the last checkup. I'm happy I got my sleeve, but could have had a better experience altogether.

Hi PrincessSleeve, will you keep me posted on how your surgery and experience go? I go down next month with Dr. Valenzuela also. I would be very interested to see how you are feeling. Thanks Monaj

That's bull crap about changing hospitals... I agree. And people should understand that they are not hiring the doctor when booking through MBC. The Dr. is only doing what he gets paid for by MBC and if they book direct with Kelly they get the FULL MEAL DEAL. Thanks for the post.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
