I know this is probably a long shot, but is there anyone around the Ventura County area? I would love to have someone else to talk to out here and possibly go on walks with and such :)

Oh cool! I'm in Moorpark! We should all meet up somewhere! :)

I'm doing okay. Kind of frustrated because I hit yet another stall :( It's been 4 1/2 months and I'm only down 51 lbs (I know I shouldnt complain...but it's difficult). How are you all feeling?

I'm feeling better. I'm 10 days out and looking forward to getting out of stage 2 (Liquids) and into stage 3 (soft and pureed foods). I'm disappointed that I've only lost about 6 lbs since surgery but I know it will come off.

I had my surgery through Kaiser. Where did everyone else have their surgery?

I don't blame you! I hated not having food I can chew LOL (weird how you miss that, isn't it?). Don't feel bad you've lost 6 lbs! That's about where I was. But it says you're down 45 lbs? That's amazing!! That is great :) Keep at it! When I did weight watchers before the surgery, I was lucky to be down a pound or two in one week...so 6 lbs in 10 days is awesome :)

I had my surgery at my doctors surgical center in Woodland Hills. It went well, thankfully :)

I'm having mine done with Dr. Feiz...was supposed to be in thousand oaks but got moved to Huntington Beach. My surgery date is November 21. I start my liquid pre op diet this Thursday....it's starting to feel real now! Excited and a little nervous!

That's great! I understand all those emotions...I went through them too. It's completely normal :) I had second and third thoughts, doubted myself...thought "why not just stay on weight watchers instead of doing something so drastic?" stuff like that. But, I'm really glad I did it! It really is helpful and my biggest issue was portion control...now, it's not an issue LOL You will be so happy when it's done and you get into routine :) Excited for you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
