Air Travel, 4 weeks post op

Recommended Posts

Question for all you experienced sleevers out there . . .I will be taking 4, 3+ hour flights over the next few weeks and am looking for some info on anything to watch out for, does the air pressure affect the sleeve, can i eat at altitude, etc. I'l be bringing my food with me on the plane so won't rely on airplane food. Thanks for sharing your experiences. A

I fly at least weekly in my job and have done since I was 14 days out of surgery. There is nothing to be concerned about.

Hey there, I have been on several international flights since my sleeve and things went well for me. As you know, airplane food isnt great for our diet and not yummy anyway so if you can, it is good to bring some Snacks. Drink lots of Water and I always wear compression socks. I havent had any negative experiences, just excited to be able to fit into a seat without worrying if the seat belt would fit. Happy travels!

The only thing is I would check with your doctor. I fly almost every two weeks for work too and the first three or four trips after surgery they had me inject myself with Blood Thinners..you are at risk for clots between the air pressure and the sitting still in your seat etc. not to mention recovering from surgery. So please check with your doctor.

I would make sure you have an aisle seat so you can get up and stretch every hour or so and look up foot exercises you can do too.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
