I think that's just the LONG name for an endoscopy, right?

Everybody is supposed to have one about a year after surgery - or sooner depending on your doc.

They stick a little camera down your throught and check out your esophogas and your stomach...

I haven't had one - but lots of folks on this site have...

I had one this past March to see what was going on with my band (I had terrible reflux). It's really not a big deal; they knocked me out and it was over very fast. It's the only way they can see inside your esophagus/pouch/stomach to see that everything is in order.

Had one about 2 months ago along with a routine colonoscopy. I even asked to stay awake so I could watch the cameras. He also took a biopsy when he did my endoscopy and determined that I had Barretts Esophagus.

Didn't hurt. No pain. Piece of Cake. - better yet make that 2 ounces of tuna fish or another Protein.< /p>

I had one last month and it was a breeze. They knock you out and the whole thing takes about 10-15 minutes.

The part that hurts is I just got a bill from the hospital for $500.00!!!!!!!!!!!! That's my co-pay - stupid fucking insurance!!

So I will be knocked out for the lovely EGD. That is good news. I wish insurance would cover more of the procedure than I know they will. I having this done because I am at the one year mark with my band and I have recently (the past three weeks) been experiencing a "lump in the throat" feeling. It feels like there is a ball in my throat that I can't swallow. I am able to eat fine and drink fluids. Today I felt a little discomfort after lunch right under my rib cage where I think my band is. It was a sore feeling nothing came up. So has anyone had anything bad found when they had an EGD? One more question. Are you unfilled for the procedure and then refilled? If that is the case then I guess you go back to the liquid phase for a couple days after the EGD. Thank you for any additional information.

I had one a couple of weeks ago after 2-3 mo of acid reflux and an ulcer-type feeling. Absolutely no pain or discomfort at all for the test. And it was reassuring....no ulcer, no slippage, just some irritation ('Quit taking your arthritis meds like we told you to, Gayle!!"). Dr feels like my band is too tight since the probelms started right after my last fill, so he recommends an unfill.....haven't done it yet - I'm so afraid of gaining if I do.

Anyhow....the only thing to fear is the bill. I have excellent insurance but my co-pay is going to be about $600. Dang! My lapband didn't cost that much!!

Hi Sue Baby:

I just got a letter recommending that I come in for one too! I am a little (actually, a lot) suspicious about being requested to have this procedure since I am not having any problems. Is this just an income generator? I am from the old school of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

It would be different if I were having reflux, or pain, but I am fine. Was your letter from True Results? Who sent you the letter? Have you ever been told you needed this procedure just to check things out??? Did you get a recommendation to have it done at your one year anniversary? I am wondering if this is something new.......

I didn't know it was recommended to get one after a year. I'm one year post-op and my doc has never mentioned it. I'm also self-pay so maybe that's one reason - he doesn't want me to have to pay a lot of money. If you're paying 500 to 600 with insurance I'd hate to see how much it is without.

So for those of you having acid reflux, what was your problem? I'm having a lot of acid reflux right now.

Hi-

Thanks for your answer. I am self pay too. I am not having problems, so I really don't want to rock the boat by having a tube stuck down my kishkes, and chance having to get unfilled, refilled, or whatever. I am at my sweet spot, and I want to stay there.

As for reflux, I had frequent bad heartburn before being banded, at which time I started taking Nexium. I am still on it.

I do have occasional heartburn, especially if my bra is too tight, and my posture is slouchy for one reason or another. Unfortunately, I need to wear a bra in public to keep my girls above my waist ha ha. FIrst thing I do when I get home is remove the double barrelled slingshot, and change into comfy clothes. I also have fewer problems with eating if my bra is loose, or is off entirely. I have had a few PB's, and they are usually when I have left my bra on and am eating dinner under time stress. The combination is is deadly.

I also sleep on a wedge shaped pillow, so I have not had any problems at night, when a lot of people get reflux.

If heartburn or reflux is new for you, then I would speak to your surgeon. They will probably do endoscopy, but then, there is a reason to look. What would concern me would be a change. If I developed new symptoms, such as new pain, or new onset reflux etc, I would definitely let the doc know.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
