Cheated on my post-op diet today...OMG! Will I die!?

Recommended Posts

I am one week post-op, on full liquids, but had some mushy food today. It did not sit well with my stomach and I threw some of it up. Now I am very scared. I feel fine now, but should I look for warning signs of a leak? Should I call my doctor? Or am OK?

Thanks!

I'm sure you're okay, but just wait a few more weeks...

You should be fine but this is a serious surgery and should be taken seriously, eating foods you shouldn't increase your chances of complications.

Makes sense. I am not proud of myself. Just really sick of yogurt.

Thank you!

I did the same thing... I cheated! I was sick of the yogurt, the Soups and the liquids. I did freak out a little, but I was fine thank God.

Lol...When you're in this stage, you can totally call on me and I will do what I can to talk you out of cheating. Although your will power is probably stronger than mine :)

I relate. I'm 10 days post op now and sooo tired of the full liquids LOL But...there's a saying I keep having run through my mind, "Don't give up what you want most for what you want now."

It helps me stay on track :)

I think if your able to eat yogurt you can have mushy food..you will be fine..some doctors dont even do 2 full weeks of liquid

Im on a 8 week Optifast liquid diet. Yesterday was my first day. I was doing good until the evening rolled around. i was needing to eat something. I ate a chicken leg and about a serving spoon full of mac and cheese. My surgery is August 15, 2013. Yesterday was hard but today will be better.

I'm sure your fine because it was a mushy food, but try to wait it out until you are cleared. I was on liquids for 3 weeks post op and it was sooooo hard, I know..My surgeon told me that it wasn't so much the food itself (depending on what it is of course) that would hurt me, but the throwing up that could..So try to hold out, it will be worth it, while your stomach is still healing...

While I can appreciate it being hard to stick to the liquids-- I went through it too, over Christmas no less. It is important to let your body heal and follow what your doctor has laid out for you. You are still swollen, numb and healing. There is an end in sight, keep reminding yourself that you knew what you were getting into when you decided on surgery. Give yourself the very best opportunity for success and a healthy recovery by doing what you are supposed to (what your doctor tells you, not someone else's). Commit to good choices now when you need to be strict so it will be easier when you have less food restrictions. We're all human, and no one is perfect. Take care of yourself, getting sleeved is only one part of this.. You have to make the right choices going forward.

Good luck .

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
