Its COKE or DR. PEPPER or PEPSI. Not soda pop.

I drank diet coke every day before surgery. That was actually the change I feared the most. Turns out I have no interest in it. I did take a sip at 3 months out. My sleeve was displeased. I may drink it again in the future. I don't know. But for now, I am pleasantly surprised that I do not want it. I am off all caffeine now ( eased thru withdrawal with the help of opiates, thank you very much) so I am content to abstain as long as I can.

A coke is a coke unless it's sprite lol.

I'm almost 4 months out. I've had a couple kiddie cokes from sonic (diet dr p's for you sticklers) and did ok. I wouldn't dare sip off of a bottle or can but did fine with it a fountain after it sets a few and the bubbles work out. Its full of ice so I bet I only get about 4 oz or so of liquid. I used to drink 3 or 4 regular 44 oz dr peppers a day, so I don't feel bad about this. I usually take a sip or two and then it's like yep... You really didn't want it after all and I'm done with it.

I gave up soda simply because it isn't a healthy option. I was a huge diet coke and diet dr pepper drinker, but decided that once I was sleeved, I would make every effort to be as healthy as possible. Don't need it in my world, don't miss it and feel that by ditching it, I am more healthy than if I kept drinking (even if I had a just a sip every so often, like so many on here do). Many on here feel that they are depriving themselves if they give up soda. I'm personally just the opposite, I'm depriving myself of good health by drinking it. So I ditched it. Your mileage may vary though....

Wow, well said Johnlatte!!!

I'm three years out and I haven't had a sip of coke. I knew it wasn't good for me before, so I figure things haven't changed post-op.

I would like to say to the OP, this is not a diet, it is a new way of life. I pray NONE of us ever diet again! I see some that join WW, things like that. I don't get it, but everyone is different.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
