Get the band catalog number and serial number from your Doctor either before or after surgery. Ask him about a little card you can carry in your wallet stating that you were banded.

See you on the flip side there sweetie. CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!

Tina,

Here's wishing you a safe and very successful banding journey. We'll be here waiting to hear how it went when you feel up to posting.

My biggest suggestions. Lipbalm/Carmex for your dry lips after surgery. A 'cough' pillow for your sore tummy when you need to cough/sneeze/move. I take a flat sheet and fold it into a compact square, then tape it across so that it doesn't come open. The sheet is much more 'solid' than a fluffy pillow and gives you more support while taking up a whole lot less room. It will be your best friend for at least the next few days. I promise. :)

It's always normal to be nervous but it seems the best thing for that (to me), is to be grateful for being allowed to have this opportunity. I thanked my 'higher power' all the way to the OR table, for allowing me to be there - and it helped so much.

I can't wait to hear how it goes!!

Thank you so much for the well wishes and support! I'll definitely let you know how everything went when I'm up and around! I also get to meet Jane and her family. She had her surgery on yesterday or today, so I'll get the low-down from her.

Thanks again! I'm so excited!!!:)

Yeah, Tina! Are you returning to Dr. Ortiz for your follow-ups? Or do you have aftercare lined up here in the states? If here, see about getting your medical records transferred to your follow-up dr. in English. You probably will have to sign and date a release w/ Dr. Ortiz.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
