When you here that surgery date it's like reality kicks in. This is real and it's really going to happen. I'm both super excited and super nervous all in one.

I'm getting really nervous now. Like I'm in line for a scary roller coaster ride. But this time I can't just close my eyes tight and wish it to be over quickly. I have to walk right through with my eyes open and try to be a brave person. I had such a horrible time with the band and here I go again. But I know it's the right thing to do.

Well it's official, I have caught a cold before surger, fever, sore throat, cough the whole nine yards!. At least I have couple weeks to kick it in the butt and take some much needed nyQuil (I have a secret stockpile of the good stuff before they changed their formula). Downside is using more sick days before my actual surgery, but my boss is very understanding.

My intentions were to be very healthy and eat lots of green things that I will have to avoid for the first few months after surgery. What can I say, I'm weird I actually like kale and beets and spinach, but I also like French fries and nuggets! Right now I am beta testing my post op routine since I am sickie poo (tea with honey, Soup, sleeping).

Wish me fast recovery so I can eat my damn salads and some last hurrah meals too!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
