Not sure what to say anymore...

Recommended Posts

I started at 214 lbs (I am 5'0") and since started the preop south beach diet my surgeon required, I have lost 23lbs. Some people at work know I am having the sleeve and most of my close friends also know. A lot of people keep saying "well, you've lost all that weight already, maybe you don't need the surgery?" I just don't know what to say to them anymore. I don't feel like I can lose the next 70-80 lbs on my own without help from a tool like the gastric sleeve, but I am starting to question whether I am doing the right thing. I guess I am just getting sick of always having to defend myself and my decision. Kind of regretting that I have even told ppl I am having the surgery! Sorry for my rant, I just get so aggravated sometimes!

Anyways, my surgery is on 6/26, so I am trying to get myself mentally ready, along with preparing my 5 year old daughter for the overnight stay in the hospital I will be away from home. Starting to get anxious and nervous but I am excited to be so close to beginning this new road to becoming healthy and happy!

Thanks for listening :)

I've lost and gained 25+ pounds more times than I can count. My reality is that I want long term success. I believe the sleeve with help me with this. The reason you are doing so well is you are following your doctors instructions to prepare yourself for surgery. If there was no end in sight for this "diet" it would (at least for me) become very hard to sustain. The sleeve is just a tool, to aid in your loss and ultimate success. It is very common for anyone who has not sustained long-term weight issues to question, but until they walk in your shoes you have to go with your instincts on this one.

Do what is right for you.

Good luck!

I have not questioned my decision once since surgery.

I agree 1000%. I thought the same thing when I was losing weight on my 2 week pre-op diet. I thought, why do I really need this surgery if I can lose like this? the answer - BECAUSE IT WILL COME RIGHT BACK ON! Like it has the other 20 times I've gotten some of the weight off, only to add it back plus some. Hopefully this tool of a stomach will help me out this time :)

I've lost 100 pounds before and gained it back...in less than a year. For me, it's not losing the weight that is hard. It's keeping it off.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
