Jacked up body image....and NSV?

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I needed new jeans because I had two pairs of 16s. One was too baggy in the thighs and the other too tight on the butt. I picked up a pair of 16 capris and just for fun a pair of 14s. I looked at those 14s and thought no way they'd even come over my thighs! Well they did! Then thought no way I'd be able to button them! I did! I left with a size 14 capri.

I've gone from a tight 22 to a 14 in 7 1/2 months. I remember being a 16 in junior high don't remember ever being a 14! Why don't I see myself so much smaller than I've ever been?!? Just one and a half more points and I will no longer be at an obese BMI. I started at 44!

Good for you!! I bet most of us have really warped body images, which makes it hard to see the results of all our hard work as easily as people around us can. When in doubt, believe your clothes--they tell it like it is. Congratulations on your progress--I can't wait to join you!

My mother-in-law gave us a box of photos to look at. There were some of me 6 years ago....before kids....I couldn't believe I looked like that! I never saw myself that big either.

I know the feeling... I went shopping at the mall yesterday for a new pair of jeans. I left the house feeling stylish and kinda sexy driving our new car with the top down :P

Enter the mall... The first thing I see is a reflection of myself in a random mirror. And I look old and still FAT! :(

I went to the gap to buy a pair of jeans I know I'm size 12 there now, and I don't know, while I was in the dressing room I see my fat thighs and old woman ass (47 last week) in the double mirrors and got more down.... For f**k sakes I went from a size 20+ to a 12 pure no stretch denim and I still feel just as big sometimes.

I have a warped image of myself.....when I see pictures, it's not what I think I look like.....but having mirrors that go from shoulder height and up doesn't help LOL

That's what put me over the edge.....when I saw a pic of myself & I was in disbelief that I had gotten so big! Pictures speak volumes!

Girl, keep on doing what you're doing....YOU LOOK AWESOME, CONGRATS!

It's madness! My brother has lost over 100 pounds and he says he still sees himself as he did at 300+. He's 6'5 and like 215 now. Before I lost weight, I was like how is that even possible?!?! Now I get it.

Another weird NSV, I was leaning up against a wall and it felt like I was leaning on a light switch or something. It was my shoulder blade! Haha!!!

So true. We are never happy and we need to get over it! We are beautiful at all our stages. I look back at photos when I was always dieting and think ...Sheeeeit, I was skinny!

Not this time, as long as I'm doing it healthy and have a goal.. I'm gonna be fricken happy!

Congrats to all you losers and your smaller-than-you-were sizes... YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!

In my mind and in my daily life I am so proud of my loss. I think why it's hard to "see" sometimes is that it's still my same body just a smaller version the weight loss did not change my body shape. I'm still short with knock knees and old! :P

It's all about being realistic AND happy with our accomplishments though. Your are right antiBand we are all awesome at all of our stages.

I for one no longer take meds and I can fit in a kayak and not worry about getting stuck.

Oh man, I'm ecstatic about my loss. Shopping is actually fun, I can run up the stairs without gasping for air, I take up leass space, I'm not sweating 24/7, I can get up from the floor like nothing .....I just want to see myself smaller!!! LOL

I will NEVER feel ok about kayaking. I'd be like those cheap bath toys that go upside down and I'd be conversing with the fishies

I saw someone post a week ago or so about "chubby girl mind", and said she wasn't able to bring herself to buy a smaller size because she never thought she would wear it. Well, I thought "i'll stop that right now" and I bought a size 14 at the consignment shop. Now I look at those jeans like they are a huge waste of money, cuz I will never fit in them... But I KNOW I WILL! It's just the way we are used to looking at ourselves.

Haha. See last year if I capsized I would of been wedged in there! I could barely hoist my body out at the dock! And when I finally got out? I had to lay on the dock like some bloated sea lion for about five minutes before I could stand up! :P

Now easy peasy :)

Oh and I love running up my stairs too. It's funny how such a small thing feels so good.

I think the stairs especially are a big NSV for me, because before the surgery that is when I felt my mortality the most. At night when going up the stairs and getting into bed with my heart pounding and breathless... Scary stuff man.

I started at a size 26/28 and this weekend I picked up a pair of size 20 jeans that I bought right after surgery at a resale store. I held them up and I thought there was no way they would come even half way up my thighs. BUT they did! I wore them around all day on Sunday just because I could :)

The other night my husband and I were laying in bed fixing to go to sleep. He had his hand on my side and sald all of a sudden, "Hey! You know what? You have ribs!" In the entire time we have been together he has never been able to feel my ribs! I told him yep, and I have hip bones too lol!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
