Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

Gone from size 24 to 16 and no one seems to notice? What about you?

One thing that irritates me is that people who do not know that I've had surgery do not notice that I've lost weight. I don't get it. Those who know, encourage me, and notice when I wear something new that is much smaller. At work they say Johanna is just melting away. I see a neighbor or person at a store that I've known for a long time and they don't notice??? I've gone from a size 24 to a size 16 so it's not like there's not a major difference. It doesn't bother me per se, I did this for me and for my health and have to keep pinching myself to realize this is for real but I just don't understand how someone could not notice??? Anyone else experiencing the same experience with people who don't know you've had surgery???

They are probably just being polite--I personally will rarely comment on someone's weight loss, just like I don't comment if it looks like they have gained. I think it's such a personal thing. Plus some people are in their own world and just don't notice other people a lot. If they say something like "you look nice today," they have probably noticed.

If I see someone has lost weight I'm the first to notice and say "hey, great job" but I think you're right that too many people are just in their own world of thoughts. I don't hear you look nice today except from people who know which still thrills me every time!! I was thrilled yesterday to get whistled at for the first time in over 20 years!

I agree with TES ... I don't usually comment on someone's weight - either way. I would say something like "you are looking good!" (if I noticed weight loss) and "so nice to see you!" (if they hadn't). I think I would rather have someone say that - than to question me about weight loss in the grocery store :) Personally, I have dropped from a size 20 pants to a 16 (some 14's) and even my parents haven't noticed! Neither have my grandchildren - which is way cool to me! They love me no matter what :)

Honestly, It took well over 100+lbs before people started saying anything to me. Some were almost apologetic when they asked if I had lost weight.

It takes time, for people to notice...

I don't usually say anything unless I know the person very, very well. I may notice and will compliment them in general by saying you are looking wonderful or something similar. It is very personal.

Personally, I would rather people not say anything to me, my weight is not what I am about.

Unless it's someone I know very, very well, I don't comment on people's weight. It's a very personal thing. If I ran into someone I only know casually and told them they look slimmer, I'd be worried they might assume I thought they were enormous/looked bad before.

Me too. I would LOVE to hear someone tell me that I look like I had lost weight, but I don't usually say it to others. Perception...

Some people don't bring it up because of the chance you might be losing weight due to illness. They don't want to bring it up if it's a sensitive subject.

Good point! I have a client who lost a lot of weight due to illness. When I saw her, I was so excited and told her how great she looked! When she explained how she lost weight it was uncomfortable and I felt bad.

It took about 70 pounds going from a size 18+ to a 10 for most people to say anything. Like HatheryOnHerWay said, I think they are afraid you might be losing weight due to an illness and especially in a workplace setting, thats a human resources no no to bring up someones weight.

I had a friend who was going through something really stressful that caused her to lose a lot of weight. Her husband had left her, but it took several months for him to decide whether or not he would come back (he didn't, in the end). She lost a pile of weight, but it was torment for her every time someone mentioned it. :(

Also, when you see people on a regular basis, it's not as easy to notice the drastic distance. Like my husband and kids know I am losing, but it's harder for them to tell the big difference because I see them every day!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
